Protect What Matters
One small command in Scripture reveals just how deeply God cares about the way we protect others.
Rabbi K.A. Schneider: Shalom beloved, this is Rabbi Schneider. A really interesting law in the Torah comes from Deuteronomy chapter 22, verse 8, where the Lord commands Israel to build what's called a parapet, which is a small fence-like structure around the roof of their home.
The reason was because people actually entertained on their roofs back in ancient Israel, and it was possible for somebody that was up on the roof—a child or someone elderly—to fall off the roof. So, to protect them, God was so involved in their lives intimately and in such a familiar way that He actually told them to practically take these steps so nobody gets hurt.
What does that say to you and me? If you live in a climate where there is ice in the winter, put salt down on your steps. Whatever it takes, safeguard your property.
