No Strange Incense
God’s instructions for the incense reveal something vital about prayer and the posture of our hearts.
Rabbi K.A. Schneider: Shalom, beloved. This is Rabbi Schneider from Discovering the Jewish Jesus. We've been focusing on the ancient Tabernacle, which the Lord commanded Israel to build that He might dwell among them. Inside the Tabernacle was an altar of incense that represented the prayers of God's people that rose continually to the Lord.
The incense needed to be made of a specific formulation; no strange incense could be burned. What is this to us today? True prayer should put God first. Jesus said, "Pray in this way: Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done." But the truth is, many people don't pray according to the ancient formula of putting God first. Too many of us make it all about ourselves, beloved. That won't fly.
