The Faithful Church, Part 2

December 10, 2018

What does a healthy church look like?  Maybe in your mind, you associate that with how many people attend on any given weekend, or the size of the building.  But Jesus looks at it far differently. Today on a Daily Walk we’ll finish our study of the Lord’s letter to the church of Philadelphia, in Revelation chapter three verses seven through thirteen. This letter is full of good news and encouragement to a body of believers who were faithful.

Living in the Daze of Deception
There’s no question that Satan loves to deceive.  He’s been at it since the Garden.  And we can expect that to only increase in the last days.  How do we combat these lies and avoid getting lead astray?  We’d like to recommend a book from Jack Hibbs called, “Living in the Daze of Deception.”  Foreward by Mike Pompeo.  This national bestseller is available right now to our a Daily Walk listeners for the cost of just ten dollars.

When we begin a relationship with Christ, typically we’re on a great spiritual high, our love of the Lord is where it should be, and we’re depending on the Spirit of God to help us grow.  Then over time, there can be the tendency of growing cold, and even dying spiritually.  Discover what to do when you’re in that condition today on a Daily Walk.

If the Lord were to write a letter to you, what do you suppose He would say?  Would He describe your condition in terms of death or life? Would He have good things to say, or not so much? Join us for a study in Revelation three today on a Daily Walk, as pastor John Randall has a look at what Jesus has to say to the church in Sardis. There’s no mystery at all about the Lord’s displeasure with the things going on in this church. They were dead!

We’re sharing pastor John’s study of Revelation right now, and currently going through the seven letters to the seven churches.  The great thing about this study is we’re really getting specific instruction on what the Lord likes to see and doesn’t like to see in a local church.  Today in His letter to the church at Thyatira Jesus confronts the unbiblical tolerance of false teaching.

Pastor John Randall’s series on the letters to the seven churches in Revelation continues today with letter number four - the letter to Thyatira.  Like several other churches, The Lord has something good to say.  They were loving, faithful, growing and serving, among other things.  But there was something terrible going on in this church too.

Today pastor John Randall resumes his series in Revelation, as we conclude our look at the Lord’s letter to the church in Pergamum. This particular church was like many churches today. What started as a small drip of false teaching has turned into a flood of deceit.  They were compromising. The solution to this problem hasn’t changed over the last two thousand years.  Let’s find out what God’s word has to say on the matter on a Daily Walk!

Last time we completed John’s look at the Lord’s letter to Smyrna, in Revelation chapter two. It was a letter of encouragement and praise. Today, as we begin a study of the letter to Pergamum, we see a very different tone from the Lord. Pergamum had fallen into the hands of false teaching.  They were compromising. The Lord’s response? Repent!

Today’s message from pastor John Randall is centered on the Lord’s message to the church in Smyrna, found in Revelation chapter two. The church in Smyrna was suffering a barrage of persecution and tribulation, yet the Lord reminds them that they have no reason to be fearful. That’s an important point for Christians today as well. Persecution and hard times will visit each of us throughout our lives, but we should not be fearful.

Have you ever been through a trial or period of discouragement, and then you received a note or message from a friend that really ministered to you? It’s always encouraging to know that a friend is thinking about us, isn’t it, especially at a time like that! That’s exactly what the Lord did for the church in Smyrna in the second chapter of Revelation.

Today on a Daily Walk we’ll be looking at the Lord’s postcard to the church in Ephesus. While they were commended for some things, they had walked away from their first love.  Their love had grown cold.  It happened to the Ephesians and it’s still happening to Christians today. If things aren’t where they used to be in your relationship with Jesus, today’s message will show you how to get back on track.
