Standing for the Truth Part 1

May 24, 2024

We’re in the book of Acts right now, focusing our time and attention on chapters six and seven today!  It truly is admirable when someone takes a stand for the truth when the pressure is on.  We’ll meet one such man today and his name is Stephen.  He was actually the first martyr of the Christian church.  We’re about to hear his final sermon on his last day on earth and allow this to encourage you to take a stand for Jesus at a time in human history where it’s desperately needed!

Murmuring and complaining… the children of Israel were known for that as they traversed through the dessert.  It was also a problem that threatened to split the early church!  And in case you haven’t noticed it’s still around today, especially on social media!  We approach Acts chapter six on this edition of a Daily Walk. It’s there we hear of a problem that has developed in this growing church.

Are you having a bad day?  Maybe things just aren’t going the way you’d like it to.  Today on a Daily Walk receive some wonderful encouragement from the Scriptures.  We’re told in Acts five that the apostles were severely beaten and commanded not to speak of Jesus any longer.  How did they respond to this?  Maybe not exactly the way you’d expect.  We’re told they rejoiced and considered it an honor to suffer for the name of Christ.  Pastor John Randall will urge us to carry this Christ-like attitude and response through life.

Hardship and persecution comes at us at various times and in various ways.  Some, like the men we’ll meet today, are beaten or have their lives threatened due to their faith in Christ!  Others may be ridiculed or mocked!  But how should we respond when it happens?  While many resort to anger and complaining, today on a Daily Walk we’ll see that there’s good reason to rejoice in the midst of it!  We take you to Acts five today.  No matter what persecution comes our way we can remain faithful to God.

Make no mistake about it the Lord takes hypocrisy very seriously.  In fact as we’ll see today on a Daily Walk two people died in the early church because of their premeditated hypocrisy.  But let’s not just notice where they went wrong… if we stop and think about it, we’ve all done the very same thing at one time or another.  Pastor John believes this can serve as a wake up call to live right before the Lord. What the Lord did that day in the early church had a positive impact on the church, and He can use His Word to do the same in our lives.

There are very real and powerful disasters that hit our lives from time to time. And when they do, it’s an opportunity to turn our fear into faith in God.  Today John Randall continues his study in the Gospel of Matthew. We’re in chapter eight where Jesus will challenge those who were inspired by his healing miracles.

Maybe you’ve noticed in your daily walk or service of the Lord… when God is at work, Satan loves to attack!  And sometimes the attack comes from unsuspecting places, like from within the church!  Today on a Daily Walk we’ll notice how God’s spirit was very much at work in the early church.  And you guessed it… Satan is about to attack from within.  Pastor John Randall is going through Acts at the present time, and today brings chapter five into focus.

On today’s program we enter chapter four.  In this section of scripture we’re looking at today, Peter has just given a God-inspired evangelistic sermon to a group of people who have observed a miraculous healing of a lame man. Thousands of people ended up surrendering their lives to God.  One might expect that joy would abound, and everyone would be excited by the news.  But that wasn’t the case.  There was a group of religious leaders who were greatly disturbed by this! Pastor John Randall will draw attention to Peter and John’s reaction in the midst of this opposition.

Today we open the book of Acts and begin to look at a story of a man the Lord heals. The Lord gives this man far more than he could have ever imagined! It’s very encouraging to remind ourselves that our God seeks to do far more in and through our lives than we could have ever dreamed possible.  Question is, are you open to being used by God?  Let’s see together how God can and wants to use us in these last days.

When you’re on a search for a church for you and your family to be a part of, what should you look for?  What is it that makes for a healthy church?  We’ll pursue the answer to that question today on a Daily Walk.  And the answer is wonderfully simple and laid out for us in Acts chapter two.  The early church was devoted to the Word, fellowship, communion, and prayer. And pastor John Randall believes the church today should follow their example.

If asked to identify a healthy church, would your mind gravitate to the one’s with the most members and programs, largest building, or that are well known?  Today on a Daily Walk we’ll consider the marks of a healthy church, as described by God.  And you might be surprised to discover God defines success and health far differently than the world.
