See You in Court Part 2

June 10, 2022

Today we turn to First Corinthians chapter six.  We can all probably think of a person or two that claims to be a Christian, yet their life is really no different than any other non-christian out there.  They’re living with their boyfriend or girlfriend, stealing from their boss, and getting drunk virtually every weekend.  We’re about to notice what that sort of sinful lifestyle reveals about the person.

When we’re wronged by someone or our rights are violated we might be tempted to take it into the legal system. And in certain instances that may be the appropriate course of action. But let’s say the person who did you wrong is a Christian… what then?  Should Christians sue Christians?  Today on a Daily Walk that very question is raised.  We’re going through First Corinthians, and in chapter six another problem in the church at Corinth rises to the surface.  Before you say, “I’ll see you in court,” consider what these verses have to say on the matter.

When a tag is sticking out from your friend’s shirt, or some food is on their chin…. the considerate thing to do is let them know so they can fix the problem.  And most of us would do that.  But what do you do when you see someone in willful, deliberate sin?  If you’re like most you tend to stay out of it, thinking it’s none of your business.  But is that really loving?  Today on a Daily Walk we’ll see how God can use us to help others who are living a lifestyle of sin.  Pastor John Randall’s message is based on First Corinthians five.

Imagine if there was a guy in your church who was having sexual relations with his stepmother.  On top of it all, the whole church knew what was going on, but did nothing about it.  Scandalous, I’m sure you’d agree.  That’s exactly what was going on in the church at Corinth.  But before you start thinking we’re above that pastor John Randall will point out the same sort of tolerance of sin is going on today in many churches.  Today on a Daily Walk we’ll open First Corinthians five and be encouraged to live a life of purity.

Someone has noticed God wisely designed our human bodies so that we can neither pat our own backs nor kick ourselves too easily.  We’re talking about the sin of pride today on a Daily Walk as we get back to our series in First Corinthians.  We’ll observe not only the consequences of pride but also the way out of it.

I wonder if the reason we rarely if ever pray – I mean really pray – is because we think God doesn’t hear our prayers?  But He does!  And God answers every prayer too.  Maybe not the way we want or expect, but He does answer.  Today on a Daily Walk we come to Revelation chapter eight. The seventh seal is about to be opened and there’s silence in heaven. You’ll soon see it’s because God is listening.

Throughout Scripture we find example after example of the destructiveness of pride and how it leads to a downfall.  Of course right there at the top of the list is Satan.   Who could forget the stories of King Nebuchadnezzar or Haman.  Or how about King Uzziah who fell through religious pride?  Today on A Daily Walk we get back into our study of First Corinthians and notice that pride is really at the core of so many of the problems and sins in our world today.  It can subtly creep into our hearts and before you know it we’re in real trouble.

As we’re faithful to our God-given calling and serving the Lord in the place He has for us, we’re not always going to be appreciated or thanked!  In fact many times we’ll be unfairly criticized, or mistreated.  That was the case for the apostle Paul as we’ll learn today on a Daily Walk.  Pastor John Randall is about to show us how to maintain the right perspective when we’re in those environments.  It would be easy for us to grow discouraged or give up in the ministry at such times.  See how to keep going when the going gets tough.

Maybe you’re under the impression that now you’re saved and on your way to heaven you can just go to a secluded island, relax on a hammock and drink iced tea all day, for the rest of your life.  The reality is God has a plan and purpose for our lives that includes service of some kind.  His Spirit comes into our lives encouraging us to be like Christ and live for the glory of God! Today on a Daily Walk Pastor John Randall shows us what a privilege it is to be the temple of God, and serving Jesus in our daily walk.

When our kids are little we expect certain behaviors like an occasional temper tantrum, sucking on a pacifier, and crawling around on the ground playing with toys.  But if a thirty or forty year old is engaging in that same behavior we’d be concerned.  That’s because we expect growth with time.  And that’s true spiritually as well.  Today on a Daily Walk pastor John Randall shows us why spiritual growth is to occur from new birth until we go to be with the Lord.

Paul referred to the Corinthians as babies in the Christian life because they weren’t spiritually healthy and mature. They often argued like children over non-essentials and allowed petty divisions to distract them. Sadly, this kind of behavior still exists today.  We'll hear a rebuke of carnal christianity in our study.
