A Daily Walk

Paul's Message at Mars Hill, Part 2

August 14, 2018

The scene shifts to Athens today on a Daily Walk.  As Paul the apostle looks around, he sees the city full of idols, and so he begins presenting just what they needed to hear... the Gospel message!  And the Lord gives us many opportunities to do the same if we’re open and willing.  Be encouraged together to believe and then share the Gospel.

Throughout the day we talk about the weather, how our day is going, our interests and maybe even current events.  But today on a Daily Walk pastor John Randall will encourage us to talk about the greatest news of all.  And if you’re like a lot of believers you really struggle in this area of personal evangelism.  So this is much needed encouragement from Acts chapter seventeen today.

I probably don’t have to convince you this world is messed up and upside down due to sin.  What can turn things around you may be wondering?  Today on a Daily Walk that’s answered for us through a study of Acts seventeen.

Today we’ll resume our study in Acts with a look at chapter seventeen, and how the ministry of Paul and Barnabas and friends was literally turning the world upside down!  I think you’d agree that really needs to happen in our world today!  Would you like to be one who turns the world upside down for Jesus? Pastor John will explain how that can happen and it starts with a dependence upon the work and power of the Spirit of God!

If you were beaten with rods, and thrown in prison for doing what God told you to do how do you think you’d respond?  If you’re like most, you might be angry or even turn bitter.  But not Paul and Silas.  We’re told they prayed and praised. God gave them a song in the night. And He can do the same for us as we suffer for the name of Christ.

We’re about to visit Acts sixteen where Paul and Silas are thrown in jail for no good reason. In fact they were doing exactly what God wanted them to do.  You’d think they’d be complaining and upset, but we’re told they were praying and praising God.  That’s the sort of eternal mindset we should have when we go through difficulty.

You can be sure in our Daily Walk the Lord will at times change our direction, or close a door, and you might be left wondering what’s up!  Did you really hear God correctly? Maybe you grow discouraged?  Today we’ll learn from the apostle Paul’s experience recorded for us in Acts sixteen.

As Christians we will have disagreements and conflict from time to time. But how we deal with it is very important!  As we’ll see today on a Daily Walk it actually led to the parting of the ways for Barnabus and Paul.  But God can even use something like that for good.

We’ve all received something we don’t deserve.  Today on a Daily Walk we’ll see that God gives us something we certainly don’t deserve far greater than anything else.  But while the Christian knows that they are saved by grace through faith, many in our world today distort that truth and add law into the mix.  This error leads to bondage as we’re about to see.

We'll be in Acts 15 today on a Daily Walk and at this point in the early church there’s conflict and controversy. Paul and Barnabas have been doing the Lord’s work, sharing the salvation message with Jews and Gentiles alike.  But now they’re facing opposition within their own ranks.  There’s room for disagreement in the body of Christ when it comes to non-essentials.  But there are some non-negotiables, or what we might call essential doctrines of the faith!  In that realm we must be in total agreement.

We all experience hardship from time to time.  Even the apostle Paul and Barnabus had difficult days, as we’ll learn today on a Daily Walk.  But how do you handle it when it happens?   Pastor John Randall is in the middle of a study in Acts and as we revisit chapter fourteen we’re noticing what Paul and Barnabus went through on one of their missionary journeys.
