Galatians 5:7-18, Part 1

When an athlete runs a race they’re careful to wear just the right clothing and shoes, and pay careful attention to what they eat and drink! They don’t want anything to hinder them. Today on a Daily Walk the Christian life is likened to a race and there are some things that can get in the way and be a hindrance.

Recently we’ve been going through Galatians, which really emphasizes that we’re to live by grace and not under the law. While we may nod our head in agreement, are we applying what we know into how we live? As we transition to chapter five we get into a very practical portion of the epistle. We’re talking about how to apply grace to our lives and live it out.

Whether it’s teaching a Sunday school class at church, going on a short term missions trip to Mexico, or even in our marriage relationship we’ve all made the mistake of operating in our flesh. That profits nothing! As Christians we’re children of promise, and we’re to live by the Spirit and draw on God’s grace for daily living. Today on a Daily Walk that comes to our attention through a powerful illustration found in Galatians four and five.

If you’ve ever had a loved one pass away and later find out that they have left you something in their will, you know what a great honor and privilege that is! But think of this, if you’re a Christian you’re an heir of Christ! Jesus owns it all and is willing to share it with us. Even more astounding is it’s not deserved, but out of His loving grace that He does this. Today on a Daily Walk we’ll ponder this amazing reality found in Galatians four.

Perhaps some of you have been adopted, or have adopted a child or two yourself! That can be a great blessing not only for the child, but the parents as well. The Bible teaches that we who are believers have been adopted by God Himself, and we’ll see what a true blessing that is today on a Daily Walk.

We’ve got a great study lined up for you today on A Daily Walk, centered on the grace of God! Here in Galatians chapter three Paul is laying out a wonderful doctrinal defense for the grace of God. The Galatians had strayed away from a loving relationship with Jesus and the grace He alone provides. Instead they were trying to live up to the law, as so many still do to today. But as we’re learning through Galatians, that only leads to frustration and failure.

Have you ever tried to do something that was totally outside your ability and simply couldn’t do it? Maybe it was trying to bench press a few hundred pounds or running a marathon and you fell way short of the mark. Today on a Daily Walk we learn that none of us can become righteous in our own effort. Simply put, it’s impossible. Instead we ought to believe in and live by the grace of Jesus.

We are justified, sanctified and glorified by grace through faith. In other words salvation and growth comes from God and not us! As you may have noticed we can so easily drift away from this and start adding fleshly effort into the mix! And that leads to nothing but problems. Today pastor John Randall opens Galatians chapter three and uncovers important doctrinal instruction about the grace of God that we can all benefit from!

We’re saved by grace through faith, but did you realize just as we need grace to start this Christian life, we need God’s grace to grow and live day by day? Freedom is found as we live by grace and allow the Holy Spirit to empower our lives. That’s the emphasis of today’s message from Galatians on a Daily Walk. As we head back to chapters one and two of Galatians the apostle Paul is in the midst of defending himself and his ministry. Lies were being spread about him and he wanted to clear things up. In doing so he takes a strong stand for the gospel of grace.

If you’re a Christian you have a testimony and the Lord can use it in powerful ways. In Galatians chapter one we run across the Apostle Paul’s testimony. We’ll notice who he was before he was saved, and can’t help but see the big difference after God got a hold of his life.
