Beatitudes, Part 1

June 13, 2019

I think virtually everyone would say that they’d like to have a happy and blessed life, but the question is, “How do you get there?”  If you try to go at it the world’s way, you’ll be sadly disappointed and won’t be satisfied in the end.  But if you’ll choose Christ’s way, layed out for us in the Beatitudes, you’ll find what your soul is longing for!

Living in the Daze of Deception
There’s no question that Satan loves to deceive.  He’s been at it since the Garden.  And we can expect that to only increase in the last days.  How do we combat these lies and avoid getting lead astray?  We’d like to recommend a book from Jack Hibbs called, “Living in the Daze of Deception.”  Foreward by Mike Pompeo.  This national bestseller is available right now to our a Daily Walk listeners for the cost of just ten dollars.

Maybe you know of someone that specializes in taking old rundown furniture or cars, and restores them to brand new condition.  Jesus Christ is into restoration as well, and it’s the lives of sinners He specializes in. Today on A Daily Walk, we’ll  see a man with a withered hand restored. We’re also going to meet the Lord’s twelve disciples, and we’ll be reminded by pastor John Randall that these were ordinary men who went on to do extraordinary things by the grace of God - and we can be used by God in the same way!

There are so many instances in God’s word where we read of people who were broken, sick, hopeless and out of options, and then came Jesus to restore them and make them whole!  There’s a great example of this in Luke chapter six.  In this case, it’s a man with a withered hand.  Perhaps today you can relate on some level?  Maybe your life is dry and withering away and you need to be restored.  The Lord specializes in that, even still today.

As we look at some of the trademarks of the Pharisees today, we’ll take note of some things we should definitely avoid.  The Pharisees had become legalistic, stale, they were just going thru the motions, and mechanical in the way they related to God! And you could say there are many caught up in this still today!  This is far from the relationship God wants to have with us.

You could say, we’ll be learning what not to do from the Pharisees today.  These Religious leaders of Jesus’ day were caught up in legalism.  They majored on the minors and minored on the majors!  That which was spiritual had become a ritual for them.  And this sort of thing still goes on today.  So we need to be aware of it, lest we get caught up in it ourselves.

Many of us can look back on a time in our lives when God miraculously touched and saved us.  Our lives were forever changed as a result.  What a blessing.  But maybe you’ve yet to experience that?  Listen in today as we’ll notice what Jesus did for two men in that position, and wants to do for you!

Today we are going to meet a man who was cleansed of leprosy, something unheard of in his day and age.  Jesus, of course, specialized in the impossible, and the fact that a man could be cured of an incurable disease was certainly noticed by those around him!  As we study Luke five, we can’t help but notice the striking parallel between leprosy and sin, and the one who can cleanse us from it.

The gospel of Luke gives us a very detailed historical account of the ministry of Jesus.  At this point in our study of Luke Jesus is fishing for humanity and calls His disciples to follow His lead.

Imagine having a lousy day of fishing.  Not even so much as a bite.  You’re about ready to give up and head back in, but your friend convinces you to lower the net one more time.   This time you catch so many fish that the nets begin to break and there are enough fish to fill not only your boat but your fishing partner’s boat as well.  Wouldn’t that be something?  It actually happened to Simon Peter one day, and through it he discovered a life changing lesson.

Just like in our day, when the Lord Jesus walked this earth there were those that rejected Him and His message, and those that believed the message and embraced Him.  Both responses are presented in the passage before us today on a Daily Walk.

We’re in Luke chapter four, and will have a look at the ministry of Christ. One would think that this would have been received and welcomed with open arms by everyone, but that wasn’t the case as we’re about to see.  Some welcomed it and others rejected it!
