A Daily Walk

John Randall

Acts 15:35-16:15, Part 1

August 3, 2018

As Christians we will have disagreements and conflict from time to time. But how we deal with it is very important!  As we’ll see today on a Daily Walk it actually led to the parting of the ways for Barnabus and Paul.  But God can even use something like that for good.

Living in the Daze of Deception
There’s no question that Satan loves to deceive.  He’s been at it since the Garden.  And we can expect that to only increase in the last days.  How do we combat these lies and avoid getting lead astray?  We’d like to recommend a book from Jack Hibbs called, “Living in the Daze of Deception.”  Foreward by Mike Pompeo.  This national bestseller is available right now to our a Daily Walk listeners for the cost of just ten dollars.

We’ve all received something we don’t deserve.  Today on a Daily Walk we’ll see that God gives us something we certainly don’t deserve far greater than anything else.  But while the Christian knows that they are saved by grace through faith, many in our world today distort that truth and add law into the mix.  This error leads to bondage as we’re about to see.

We'll be in Acts 15 today on a Daily Walk and at this point in the early church there’s conflict and controversy. Paul and Barnabas have been doing the Lord’s work, sharing the salvation message with Jews and Gentiles alike.  But now they’re facing opposition within their own ranks.  There’s room for disagreement in the body of Christ when it comes to non-essentials.  But there are some non-negotiables, or what we might call essential doctrines of the faith!  In that realm we must be in total agreement.

We all experience hardship from time to time.  Even the apostle Paul and Barnabus had difficult days, as we’ll learn today on a Daily Walk.  But how do you handle it when it happens?   Pastor John Randall is in the middle of a study in Acts and as we revisit chapter fourteen we’re noticing what Paul and Barnabus went through on one of their missionary journeys.

We continue to follow Paul and Barnabus on their missionary journey today on a Daily Walk.  Pastor John Randall will draw our attention to a few things that Paul and Barnabus did that we should too!  They were involved in evangelism, discipleship and they sought to strengthen the churches too!

Whether it’s at the office, in school, at home or even in church we’ll face opposition.  The enemy opposes the work of the Lord, and so if we’re doing what God wants us to do we’ll be opposed at some point in time.  So how do we persevere?  That’s the question we’ll present today on a Daily Walk.

Maybe you’ve noticed when a pastor delivers a Christ-centered, bible-based message not everyone receives it the same way!  Some might nod their head in agreement but never put shoe leather to it. Others gladly embrace the message and change as a result. And still others may walk out of the church offended.  Today on a Daily Walk we’ll notice some very different reactions to the teaching Paul gave in Acts thirteen.

Pastor John Randall will give attention today to Paul’s first recorded sermon.  Back in the first century there were those thoroughly convinced that the way to heaven was by observing the law.  That sort of thinking is still around but nothing could be further from the truth!  Paul wants to make it clear that justification is by turning and trusting.  Turning from your sin and trusting in Jesus alone!

What makes a good sermon?  I think you’d agree there needs to be teaching from the Bible, and it would be a good idea to include the Gospel message too!  Paul’s first recorded sermon features just that.  It’s a survey of the Old and New Testaments up until that point in time, and also he emphasized the Gospel.  It’s a powerful sermon and one we’ll look at today.

As we get back into Acts chapter thirteen today, we’re following Paul and Barnabas on their first missionary journey.  God may or may not call you to leave your home and go to a foreign land, but whether you’re in Africa, San Juan Capistrano or New York you’re to be involved in the ministry.  And like these saints of old found to be true, we can expect some opposition as we minister.
