A Daily Walk

John Randall

A Collision with Religion Part 2

December 18, 2020

Remember back as a child picking for teams? Inevitably we’d choose the greatest athletes or most popular first.  But when Jesus chose His disciples He didn’t go by worldly standards. He picked some guys you might not expect! The group included fishermen, a religious zealot, a hated tax collector, and six others we know little about!  Just ordinary men, but they followed an extraordinary God.  Pastor John Randall is sharing a new series in Mark, and today on a Daily Walk we’ll again be in chapter three.  Let’s hear more about the guys Jesus handpicked to be His disciples.

Living in the Daze of Deception
There’s no question that Satan loves to deceive.  He’s been at it since the Garden.  And we can expect that to only increase in the last days.  How do we combat these lies and avoid getting lead astray?  We’d like to recommend a book from Jack Hibbs called, “Living in the Daze of Deception.”  Foreward by Mike Pompeo.  This national bestseller is available right now to our a Daily Walk listeners for the cost of just ten dollars.

Pastor John Randall will be resuming his verse by verse study of Mark on today’s program.  Join us in chapter three, as together we read about an encounter Jesus had with a man who had a withered hand.  He would restore him!  But pastor John also wonders, how many of us are in a withered condition right now in need of restoration?  Maybe it’s a withered marriage, or your emotional state is a real mess in the midst of the Pandemic?  Let’s be encouraged by what God wants to do in our lives!

When we have a problem we naturally want to try to come up with a solution.  But what do you do when it’s totally out of your control and you’re out of options?  Today on a Daily Walk we’ll see that we’re all sinners and that’s a problem we can’t solve on our own.  Thankfully Jesus has solved our sin problem for us. He is a Savior for sinners.  Pastor John Randall will highlight that for us through a study in Mark chapter two.

Let’s say you’re being asked to put a team together at work, what do you typically look for?  Perhaps the best and brightest in the field, or most popular!  It’s interesting to observe who Jesus choose to be His disciples!  People you might not expect… fishermen and a tax collector just to name a few.  And that should encourage all of us, that no matter what our background, education or ability… God can still use us in a mighty way. Let’s look together at the calling of Matthew, today on a Daily Walk, as we join pastor John Randall in Mark chapter two.

Today pastor John Randall opens Mark chapter two.  It describes the miraculous story of four men bringing their paralytic friend to Jesus.  As you look at all that they went through, and the obstacles they overcame, it’s truly inspirational.  Jesus took notice of their faith, and so too should we!  Along the way we’ll consider the question, what would we be willing to do, to bring a friend to Jesus?

We’re making our way through Mark’s gospel.  Today we’ll observe the healing of a paralytic.  As fantastic as that is, there was something far greater in his life that needed to be dealt with… his spiritual condition.  And Jesus would take care of that too!  Maybe you’re in need of healing today, physically or spiritually?  Let’s see what the Lord can do in our lives, as we come to Him in faith.

The plan today is to finish Mark chapter one.  If you’ll recall, Jesus has just spent some alone time with the heavenly Father in prayer.  Right on the heels of this devotional time, came an opportunity for ministry!  Today we’ll be introduced to a leper who Jesus encounters and his life would never be the same as a result.  We’ll notice how he came to the Lord and how we can too!

How’s your devotional life going?  If you’re like many, you’d probably say, it’s not where it should be!  As we approach a new year, this is an excellent time to do some self-examination and if need be make a commitment to daily time in prayer and the Word. And that’s modeled for us by Jesus in Mark chapter one.  Today on a Daily Walk we’ll notice how Jesus took time out early in the day to get alone with the Father.  Pastor John Randall believes this is essential if we’re to be effective in life and ministry.

Pastor John Randall is in the early going of his study of the Gospel of Mark and it’s been quite a blessing learning about the beginning of Jesus’ ministry in Galilee. Imagine there you are in church, Jesus is in the middle of an amazing teaching, and then a demon possessed man suddenly cries out and disrupts the service!  Then Jesus commands the demon to come out of him and he does!  That’s essentially what happened in the story we’ll bring before you today.

Are you following Jesus in your daily walk?  The early disciples made that choice, and we pray you will too if you haven’t already!  Today on a Daily Walk we consider who is King of our lives.  In just a couple of weeks we’ll be celebrating Jesus coming to this earth. He came to die for our sins so that we could be a part of His glorious Kingdom.  We join pastor John Randall in Mark chapter one and discover the joy and blessing of following Jesus!

Whether you’re pastoring a church, a small group leader, or a missionary on a foreign land… the ministry you’re involved in should be all about Jesus!  If it’s not, you’re off track! Today we give attention to the life and ministry of John the Baptist.  It’s not hard to see, he was sold out to Christ and his ministry focus was all about Christ.  It's a great model for us today to follow!
