When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are essentially admitting that we have nothing to give but He fills us with His life. We can then either hold onto everything He gives us or we can turn around and give back to Him as He leads and watch Him open the floodgates of blessing in our lives.

Just as a fire can go out and turn into a pile of ashes that can be stoked to find embers to relight the fire, our excitement about salvation can be renewed. When we remember God’s blessings for us, big or small, it stokes the fire in our hearts to be thankful for what He’s given and have a faith that connects to our feelings.

Samson lived a life filled with mistakes and he suffered great consequences, yet God was still able to use him for His glory. The Bible tells us to flee from temptation, but for the moments we give in and experience consequences we must remember that God gives us the grace and strength to pick ourselves back up and continue in His work.

The way that God orchestrated the coming together of Ruth and Boaz shows His sovereignty in all situations, but it was also their obedience to Him that ended up fulfilling prophecy down the line. We are faced with decisions daily in which we must seek God’s leading and follow Him in obedience.

Our motivation when giving needs to be bringing God glory, so we must give in response to His calling. The Bible speaks about the necessity of giving, not so that others are provided for but more than that, it’s about our hearts. God gives to us so that we can give to others in response to trusting Him and thanking Him for the blessings He’s given.

As part of the family of God, we have a responsibility to each other to remain spiritually right with God so that when we see a brother or sister struggling then we can call them out on it and help them through it. Too often we leave that job to pastors or people in authority, but it is just as much our responsibility to go after lost sheep.

Because of Christ’s death on the cross as payment for our sin, we are spoiled rotten to the point that all we have to do is truly repent and be clean. There will be consequences, however we should be grateful because our consequences are given to us out of love, and we must genuinely learn from them.

We are all going to die unless we live to see the day that Jesus comes back. Knowing that, it is essential that we believe in Jesus and His resurrection, giving our lives to Him so that we can be with Him for all eternity and never experience permanent spiritual death.

Throughout Scripture we see how God takes ordinary people and uses them to accomplish His work. God still wants to use ordinary people like us and all we have to do is be available to Him.

Allowing unfair circumstances to get the best of us, or trying to change things and do things our own way, does not get us anywhere but rather worse off. God’s got a plan and we can see that through the various stories in Scripture when He used trials to abundantly bless His children in the end.

Without God, we are just a pile of dry and dead bones. When we simply receive the gift of salvation that He offers out of grace, we are brought to life and have the opportunity to share this with a lost world.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
