Rick Warren, Female Pastors, and the Textbook Path to Heresy
Saturday, June 3, 2023
GUEST: MIKE STONE, candidate for president, Southern Baptist ConventionHeresy is defined as “belief or opinion contrary to orthodox religious doctrine.”For two millennia of church history, it has been the orthodox belief of Christians and churches who esteem Scripture as the highest authority that men—not women—with character “above reproach” are qualified to serve as pastors or overseers in the church.Scripture and church history are so clear on this that to propose that women should be pastors is to willfully reject God and His design for His church.1 Timothy 3 is one Scriptural basis for male-only pastors. Notice the specificity of men as church overseers and the use of male pronouns:It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. 2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money. 4 He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity 5 (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?), 6 and not a new convert, so that he will not become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil. 7 And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. (1 Timothy 3:1-7).The Bible is perhaps even more clear in the previous chapter:I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. (1 Timothy 2:12-14).Rick Warren is arguably the most well-known pastor in the world. He was the pastor at the mega-church Saddleback in Southern California for decades, is the author of numerous best-selling books, and speaks at major venues all over the world.Rick Warren is also the current chief proponent for the heresy of female pastors being integrated into the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in America and the one his own church was disfellowshipped from due to Rick Warren ordaining multiple women to pastoral roles.Rick Warren is not going silently into the night on this issue. The Southern Baptist Annual Meeting is coming up June 12-13 in New Orleans where the attendees (or “messengers” as they are known) will vote to confirm or rescind the disfellowshipping of Saddleback. In the lead-up to the meeting, Rick Warren is using his formidable position and influence to persuade the Southern Baptist Convention away from biblical and historical orthodoxy on the issue of female pastors to heresy (again, “belief or opinion contrary to orthodox religious doctrine”).This weekend on The Christian Worldview, Mike Stone, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Blackshear, GA and candidate for president of the Southern Baptist Convention will join us to discuss this issue and others within the SBC and what his vision is for the denomination going forward.
Rick Warren and the Undermining of the Faith
Friday, June 24, 2022
GUEST: TOM BUCK, Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church (Lindale, TX)In late May, pastor Tom Ascol, who was then a candidate for president of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), joined us to discuss some of the pivotal issues facing the largest Protestant denomination in America. Their annual convention came and went in mid-June in Anaheim, CA, with Ascol finishing second in the voting for president behind a less biblically-conservative candidate named Bart Barber. There is a major debate taking place within the SBC that is representative of the larger debate within the Evangelical church on issues related to gender, race, and sexuality.Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in Southern California, is the most well-known pastor within the denomination. His church and best-selling books, The Purpose Driven Life and The Purpose Driven Church, have impacted the evangelical church’s ecclesiology (i.e. the doctrine of the church, including methodology) more in the last 25 years than anyone or anything else.Last year, in clear violation of Scripture (e.g. 1 Tim. 2:11-14; Titus 1:5-9) Warren led the way in appointing three women to pastoral roles at Saddleback and just recently announced a husband and wife will be replacing him in a kind of dual pastoring role when he retires this year.Despite Warren’s actions being in violation of biblical and denominational beliefs, the SBC chose not to disassociate from Saddleback and gave Warren six minutes to speak at their annual meeting. We will air the audio of that on this week’s program. Our guest is Tom Buck, pastor of First Baptist Church in Lindale, TX and a noted theological conservative within the SBC.“This is 2022…get over it” is not the right response to the issue of appointing female pastors. The response to this question is tectonic, determining whether a church or denomination remains faithful to God’s word or regresses into more rebellion.----------------Related Resource:Rick Warren Address SBC Messengers in Anaheim (2022)
Rick Warren on New Age health ministry and Carl Teichrib on Transhumanism
Saturday, February 12, 2011
On the first half of this broadcast Jan talks to Jennifer Pekich who attended Rick Warren's "health seminar" led by three blatant New Agers. In fact, Dr. Oz wants to hypnotize America. But she heard buzz words which troubled her such as "sustainable living." These were U.N. rooted terms used by the doctors. She heard about U.N. Agenda 21, globalism, and more, begging the questions, is Rick Warren in agreement with these doctors and their not-so-hidden agenda? Since all of this continues, we must conclude Warren is in favor of this and his global PEACE plan fits in with the global agenda of the doctors. The spiritual health of Saddleback attendees is clearly at stake. Hear the original program announcing the Warren seminar with radio guest Caryl Matrisciana, posted to "Radio Archives" for January 22. http://ponderingsfrompatmos.blogspot.com On the second half of this broadcast Carl Teichrib reveals that the Genesis 3 lie lives on -- man is continually trying to be like God. That seems to be the goal of transhumanism. It is playing out everywhere: The military looks for the perfect soldier; NASA looks for the perfect space traveler; Hollywood offers such films as Avatar. How might this affect you? Jan also explains Preterism, being offered by Gary DeMar. He feels Olive Tree and similar ministries are misleading millions and we serve as a threat to the integrity of the Christian faith because our eschatology is future-based while Preterism believes it all took place in 70AD.
