Job is one of the oldest stories in the Bible, and the truths it contains are timeless. How would you fare if you were put through the trials that Job experienced? Job had friends to help him through, but they weren’t much help. In fact, their counsel was hurtful! Today we meet Job’s friend Bildad and his words of advice are no better than that of Eliphaz.

It’s amazing how bad advice can bring us down. But we can discern the good from the bad if we rely on God and take in His Word! That’s the lesson we’ll learn today as we open the book of Job. Pastor Bill Henry has an eye on chapters 6 and 7 and we’re about to hear Job’s interaction with one of his so called friends. Now, under normal circumstances, you’d think that when you’re struggling, your friends would be the ones to come to your aid.

Ever had some well meaning Christian come up to you claiming they have a word from the Lord for you? Then they go on to make some outlandish statement, that really doesn’t line up with Scripture? Well that’s exactly what Job’s friends do in the passage before us today on Simple Faith. We’re learning through this present series in Job the real need to choose our words carefully when we’re around the suffering.

Bill Henry, is taking us verse by verse through the book of Job. And when I say Job, you naturally think of suffering. Job went through more than just about anyone could stand, yet his faith remained. What made matters worse is bad advice kept coming his way. We’re currently in chapter five. Here’s pastor Bill with some words about the right and wrong way to counsel a friend who’s going through tough times!

We enter into the fifth chapter of the book of Job here on Simple Faith with pastor Bill Henry. Job very easily could have said "with friends like these who needs enemies?" Here in this section we see that Bildad, Zophar, and Eliphaz missed the whole point. They assume that Job was in need of repentance. But nothing could have been further from the truth.

Job is more than just the story of a man who’s faith was tested severely, and who triumphed. That’s an important aspect of this book, but we also need to remember that God seeks the same faith from you and me. Have you ever gone through so much pain and suffering that you just wanted to just go home and be with the Lord? In Job chapter four Job has reached that point.

Today we’ll continue pastor Bill Henry’s series in Job. The sufferings this man went through are well known. He lost his fortune. He lost his kids. He even had boils from head to toe. What could be worse than that? Well, we’ll find out today that one of the worst things in Job’s life at the time was his so-called friends! Talk about bad advice!

I think we’ve all been around someone who is in a great amount of pain, or is in the middle of a crisis. I think we’d all agree, it’s hard to know what to say. But as we’ll see through our study of Job today on Simple Faith sometimes it’s best not to say anything… but just weep with those who weep. Pastor Bill Henry is about to open Job chapter two… where Job’s friends enter the scene.

We’re about to enter into chapter two of Job. This is a story of suffering, bad advice and ultimately, triumph. Job was a man of faith, and a man we can all model our lives after. He didn’t let the calamities that befell him get in between him and God.
