If it Ends This Way, It's Over Part 2

May 20, 2024

Today the plan is to complete chapter three of James, with pastor James Kaddis.  Envy and bitterness can so easily creep into our hearts and when it does there’s danger ahead!  So what can be done about it?  We’re about to find out in this helpful study called, “If it Ends This Way, It’s Over.”

We’re turning a corner in our series, “In the Volume of the Book,” as we enter into the New Testament.  Today pastor James will focus primarily on the gospel of Matthew and we’ll see what it has to say in the prophetic realm.  It not only includes fulfilled prophecy concerning Christ’s first coming, but also prophecy that is yet to be fulfilled concerning the second coming!

Life is a gift, and when lived God’s way, it’s the gift that keeps on giving. When the truth, wisdom, and counsel of God is resisted, things go very bad.  There’s no room in our life for rebellion against God because the outcome will be catastrophic. It’s time to listen and obey because there really is no other way!

Words have great power to help, or to hurt; to comfort, or stir up trouble. It’s a power that must be controlled or it’ll be abused. Thankfully we don’t have to wait till death to get control of this powerful instrument. We’ve been making our way through the book of James. James has reminded us that the world is watching us. But also, the world is listening to us!  We can’t help but ask what will they hear?

Consider this stern and heartfelt warning today on Light on the Hill, “Watch Your Mouth! You May Start a Fire.” Our tongues can get us into big trouble and when used in a way that doesn’t please God, things can go from bad to worse in a hurry. When we choose to exercise care in this area, it changes lives, including your own.

So you say you have faith and belief in God, that’s great! But today on Light on the Hill we’ll discover that our actions demonstrate if the faith is real or not. In other words if you claim to have faith but your works do not accompany that, your faith is useless and dead. We’ve heard it said, “put your money where your mouth is,” but if you can’t do that, then your words become meaningless and a real change needs to happen.

We continue in the book of James here today on Light on the Hill.  Chapter two speaks of faith and works!  There’s a long-standing debate which you might be familiar with to some degree. It concerns what is saving faith and the role of works in our salvation.  Are we saved by doing good works as some would have you believe?  Are we truly born again if we’re not moved to action and live out our faith?  Our teacher pastor James Kaddis will help us answer these critical questions!

Why does God allow bad things to happen to righteous people? Why does God allow this evil to exist?  Have those questions come to mind in recent years? Those are among some of the questions that Habakkuk asks God in one way or another. The insight gained from God’s answer is life changing!

We’re looking at the book of James right now on Light on the Hill, and today we zoom in on what God doesn’t do and that’s show favoritism. And what he does do, He shows mercy. We continue in chapter two with James asking three questions to help illustrate these truths.

There’s no doubt about it we are all guilty of violating God’s law, but the real question is “Will we receive mercy?” We’ll find that answer as we continue in our study in the book of James today on Light on the Hill. By the way the answer is very encouraging if you’re in the right place.

Our teacher pastor James Kaddis opens the book of James. In chapter one we’re reminded of the danger of being hearers only and not doers of the Word.  Pastor James encourages us now to put the Word into practice, in all aspects of life and ministry.
