Man's Law verses God's Law

May 1, 2021

God's Law is higher than man's law. The fact is that there is a higher law. What our government and president say must be subject to that higher law. Even if they don't recognize that higher law, we must let them know when they are wrong. No government can say something is right when the Bible says its wrong and get away with it. That government must be told they are wrong. We cannot remain silent and be faithful to our calling as the church. We are entrusted with the Word of God and must proclaim it to our generation and that includes the government. All are subject to God's higher law. No nation is exempt from that law.

The church will increasingly be a light to the world. This we must hold on to. This we must believe. The gospel is powerful. It is more powerful than all the forces of Satan. We as the church must not give in to the kingdom of darkness no matter what Satan throws at us. We are on the winning side and we will prevail.

We are not looking forward to the reign of Christ in the future but His reign has actually already begun and will increase more and more. The church will not go down in defeat as some teach but will be victorious. As John Newton's hymn says, "Glorious things of thee are spoken Zion City of our God. Micah declares, "In the last days the mountain of the Lord's temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and peoples will stream to it." In the New Testament, the temple is the church, a spiritual temple which is being built. It is that temple that Micah refers to.

Psalm 9:17 says that nations that forget God will be thrown into hell. The meaning of this verse can be debated. The least it means is that nations that forget God will be judged or punished. Nations that have once known God and then truned from Him will be punished. We must not forget that. Our secular society tells us to forget God but we cannot do that. We must realize that forgetting God is dangerous and that if we do we will pay the consequences.

Joshua foreshadowed another temple builder greater than him. When the old earthly temple in Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 AD, another temple had already begun. That temple was being built by Jesus Christ and continues to be in formation. One day the Jews will find their true temple but it will not be an earthly temple but the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. They will be grafted back into God's true temple which is spiritual.

Martha gave a clear profession of faith in Christ. She with a simple childlike faith believed what Jesus said and believed that He was the Messiah, that He was the Son of God, and that He was the promised One that should come into the world. Her faith was simple but her faith was firm. This is the kind of faith that we need. This is saving faith. To simply believe Jesus at His Word and to put our trust in Him.

All of us will experience death at some point. Some die young. Other die old. Yet we will all have to experience it. Death, however, is won over in the Resurrection which all who are believers in Christ Jesus will experience. It will be a resurrection to life eternal. Today, we want to talk about that resurrection and how we can be sure to experience it.

Today, it is so important that we defend the faith that we have. Many are trying to rob us of it. The Biblical faith is being attacked on many fronts, and we must stand up and defend our precious faith against all the onslaughts of Satan and his forces.

When a nation gives itself up to sexual immorality, it will face judgment. We think we can do anything and get away with it but we have forgotten what happened so long ago to Sodom and Gomorrah. They went their own way. They sought after things that were not right in the sight of God and they paid the penalty. We will too if we do not repeht.

Beware lest we lose the power of preaching. We need to be careful that we don't get so wrapped up in modern technology that the media presentation becomes more important than the sermon itself. We may meet in a sanctuary with all the state of the art technical devices such as multiple screens, the most powerful projectors, the best sounding audio equipment, and superior acousitcs. Yet, powerful preaching is not there. We have substituted something else and lost the most important thing. Great revivals have always been accompanied by powerful preaching. We should not expect revival to come until powerful preaching returns to our pulpits.

As believers we enjoy fellowship in Christ's kingdom. We are not awaiting some kingdom in the future to enjoy fellowship but we have that fellowship now in the church. Yet, we do look forward to an eternal and abiding fellowship in the future eternal kingdom. We all have loved ones with whom we have enjoyed fellowship in this life who have gone on ahead of us to be with the Lord. We have the hope of eternal life and a renewed fellowship with them in the eternal kingdom that is yet to come. However, we have that fellowship around the table of the Lord here and now in the present gospel age. The kingdom is now. The kingdom is yet to come.
