Living in the Light of God's Judgement Seat

May 18, 2019

Living in the presence of God means to fear God, that is to reverence Him and live our lives accountable to Him with a view to that Great Day. We are to live in the light of God's Judgement Seat. Today, our society lacks the fear of God. So many Christians don't have much fear of God in their lives. We are not living in the light of God's Judgement Seat. Yet, this is what Jesus calls us to do.

We are living in a materialistic society that tends to avoid God. Christians are not to be that way. We are to live every day with God and in His presence. We are to trust in Him and not in our selves or our possessions. We are to live by God's Word on a daily basis and to rest our cares in Him. Living in the presence of God is a great blessing for God's people. Others do not have that blessing. We need to avoid living like those who know not God. We need to guard ourselves from getting sucked in by the world. We are members of the Kingdom of God and we live with our Father everyday. We need to look up to Him and know that He cares for us and wants the best for us.

We are put here for a purpose - to live our lives for the glory of God and to promote the kingdom of God in the world. We are citizens of Heaven but we live on the earth and while here we are to promote the things of Heaven - the kingdom of God - promote the reign of Christ in this world in men's hearts. Our primary purpose in this life, then, is to live as citizens of the kingdom of God. If we do this, God takes care of us. We need not fear. Those who live their lives for God's glory will be blessed in this life. Jesus assures of this.

Our devotion should be to God. He should receive the focus of our life not material things. This was what Jesus was teaching in the Sermon on the Mount. We should live our lives at all times in the presence of God living our lives with focus on Him and seeking to please Him. God wants our devotion. He wants our hearts.

We need to set our hearts on God. An eye that can see clearly and focus on the way ahead is good and healthy. So, if our hearts see clearly and focus on God, then our way in life will be good and blessed. This is the message that our Lord is teaching. Our hearts need to be in the right place.

Today, many people have their hearts set on this world and God is far from their minds. Even Christians lack in their devotion to God and seek too much after the things of this world. Setting our hearts on God should be our priority. Far too many Christians have the wrong priorities in life. Their devotion to the Lord is shallow. Their devotion to this world is far too much.

We need to ask ourselves when we fast if our fast was from the heart. Are we doing it for the right purpose or is it just some mechanical thing we do just to say we have fasted? We should fast in the presence of God. It is something that Christians should do at times but it should be done not to please men but to please God and in His presence.

We are called to a life of forgiveness. We are to forgive others as we have been forgiven. Jesus has called each of us to be peace makers and forgivers. This is our calling as Christians as followers of the One who forgave us.

Jesus teaches us what it truly means to love our neighbor. The Jews hated the Samaritans. Yet, Jesus taught in his parable that a hated Samaritan stopped and helped a Jew who was in need. He showed love to his enemy. Jesus said that what the Samaritan did was showing love to his neighbor. Jesus did not accept a surface interpretation of the law but he went to the heart of the law and taught us that this is the way we should live. As Christians, we are called to live by God's moral law in our daily lives and by so doing to influence the world around us. When Christianity is truly lived in a community, it will be a tremendous influence. True Christianity is where the Kingdom of God is and where the Kingdom of God is, good will come to those who encounter it. Our nation today needs Christianity. It needs the Kingdom of God in our midst. The Kingdom of God has been in our midst in the past and it has brought tremendous influence for good on the land. Today, we need that influence to come back again.

Today, we are living in a retaliation society. Every time you turn around you hear about someone being sued. Lawyers advertise on television and seek clients to help them file lawsuits. All lawsuits are not wrong but today it has gotten out of hand. Jesus taught something quite different that our society could learn from. He taught this attitude of turning the other cheek. It was not necessarily that we should turn the other cheek literally in every circumstance but that we should have a turn the cheek mentality. It was to teach us to curb our tendency to want to retaliate in every situation.

We should always be truthful. What we say is important. How we live in our daily lives and conversations is exposed to God and He cares about what we say and how we live. Today, we live in a society that ignores God's moral law and we will pay the price if we do not repent of our terrible sins. Jesus shows us how we are to live under God's moral law. He calls us to repentance.
