On today’s episode, we turn the clock back over 15 years to hear long-time SWRC host Noah Hutchings describe one of the most mysterious and fascinating structures in the world, the Great Pyramid. Questions swirl around its origin and intentions. Is it mentioned in the Bible? Is it connected to Bible mysteries or even perhaps to Bible prophecy?

On today’s episode, we’re going to turn back the clock over 15 years to hear the long-time host of SWRC, Noah Hutchings. He wrote a best-selling book about the Great Pyramid. During anniversary month here at SWRC, we are pleased to offer a commemorative 30th-anniversary edition of his book. It’s called The Great Pyramid: Prophecy in Stone. Here to introduce this 2010 episode is Noah Hutchings.

Noah Hutchings: I'm also excited to know that they're still investigating and trying to find out as much information about the Great Pyramid as they possibly can. I hope they continue to explore because certainly the Great Pyramid is, without a doubt, the most interesting building, I think, in all the world.

I have been to Egypt many times, been in the Great Pyramid many times, and it's just not a big hunk of stone out there or stone blocks. I think each block weighs something like 12,000 pounds. But it's a building that covers 13 acres. It's 500 feet tall with the capstone. The capstone is not there because much of the stone, especially the outer casings, has been taken away for building in Cairo.

But it's an amazing building. You go inside, as I said, it’s not just a hunk of stone. There are rooms in there, some 200 feet high—magnificent rooms. You go into the Grand Gallery, and there the stairs lead up. Off to one side is the Queen's Chamber, and then you go on up the stairs and there's the King's Chamber, the reception room, and the throne room.

Then you go in the mausoleum area where we assume someone was supposed to be buried there, but there was no one ever buried there. The coffer is there, a beautiful, beautiful red stone granite coffer there, but there's nothing in it. No indication that anyone was ever placed in it. So, it's a fantastic building, just unimaginable.

I know on one trip to Egypt, our guide was a Muslim lady and her name was Amar. She kept reading from a book as we were going through the Great Pyramid. I said it sounded awfully familiar, so I said, “Amar, let me see the book.” She had tinfoil around it. she had used it so much she had put tinfoil around the cover.

So, I took a look at it. Well, it was my book on the Great Pyramid. Now, here was a Muslim guide in Egypt using my book to take tourist groups to the Great Pyramid. That will just give you an indication about my book.

We consider the age in which this was built and we look at the scriptures. Now, I think it seems obvious that Jeremiah, about 650 BC or 700 BC, would have known about the Great Pyramid, as we read in Jeremiah chapter 31, two verses there, verses 19 and 20: “Great in counsel and mighty in work, for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men, to give everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings, which has set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day.”

So, I think it's evident that the Great Pyramid, one of the greatest wonders in the world, was in the middle of Egypt, and Jeremiah knew about this. We also consider the visit of Abraham to Egypt some 1,500 years earlier than Jeremiah. He visited Egypt, and we read in Hebrews that he looked for a city whose builder and maker was God.

Now, Manetho and other earlier scribes wrote that the Great Pyramid, which in their time still had the 144,000 sealed white limestone coverings, reported that it looked like a building let down by God out of heaven. It was a beautiful, beautiful building, 500 feet high. You could see it for miles. The sun shining off of those white polished grand limestone blocks.

The limestone blocks, of course, were removed later for building purposes in Cairo. Now, there are still some parts of these white limestone blocks along the lower level of blocks at the Great Pyramid. What is most amazing there is these blocks were pure white, exceedingly smooth. This was the original covering, and some believe there were 144,000 white limestone blocks covering the Great Pyramid.

They were almost glazed. It's just amazing. They were sealed with a white seal that had to be made from grinding up some of these white blocks themselves. The blocks would break evidently; you go along the base of the pyramid and you see the blocks would break before the seal would break.

Can we just imagine, say some 5,000 years ago, that in making this seal, they would grind up these white blocks? They had to grind them up because the seal had to be the same color as the white block. Then somehow they would come up with a liquid-type stuff that they would mix with this ground-up limestone and make a seal that was even stronger than the blocks themselves. The block would break before the seal would break.

The seal is still there, and I’ve tried to chip it. It's harder than steel even after 5,000 years have gone and it’s just amazing, the intelligence that must have done that.

Now, getting back to today’s episode, there's a lot of mystery that surrounds the Great Pyramid. Who built it? Could it have been built even before Noah's flood? The ancient Jewish historian Josephus recorded that the descendants of Seth built it in the ancient land called Syriad. Now, does that provide any clues? Noah Hutchings explained it this way in this classic episode.

Noah Hutchings: Of course, the land of Syriad is, you can check in the Bible and historical notes, it's the area of Giza. That's where the pyramid is, the middle part of Egypt there. It's interesting to note that Josephus believed from ancient scribes—you know, he had all the temple scripts and everything the Romans gave him to write a history of Israel and the world.

So, Josephus had all the information there dating back hundreds or thousands of years. He had the record there that he believed that the Great Pyramid was built before the flood. Of course, the white limestone seal blocks on the covering would have made it waterproof. But there's still some evidence from inside, at least some of the exit channels there, that had salt in it. So, there is some evidence that it may have been built before the flood.

Now, Clarence Larkin and Piazzi Smyth and many others who have written books on the Great Pyramid expressed an opinion that Enoch built the Great Pyramid. I would like to quote from a book by Nicklin titled Testimony in Stone. I am quoting from his book now. Quote: “The late David Davidson drew attention to the remarkable way the age or dynasty of Enoch is impressed upon the Great Pyramid itself.

As Enoch lived 365 years (see Genesis 5:23), so 365, or to be more exact, 365.242 days, the value of the solar year, forms the basis of all its measurements. Moreover, by ancient writers, the Great Pyramid is described as the pillar of Enoch. Enoch was in the line of Seth, and Josephus ascribes the building of it to the dynasty of Seth.

Enoch, who it should be observed is reputed to be a prophet (Jude verses 14 and 15), may well have been the architect if not the builder of the Great Pyramid. Now, if God revealed the plan of the tabernacle to Moses and gave instruction for the building of the temple to David, could it not also have been revealed the design and measurements of the Great Pyramid to be given to the one chosen by Him to superintend its erection? In fact, could He not have inspired and guided all concerned in the task?”

So, there are quite a number of scholars who do propose that Enoch was the builder of the Great Pyramid. We simply present the evidence here in the book that is the opinion of many of the other writers and those who have studied the history of the pyramid to some great extent.

Josh Davis: Some say Pharaoh Khufu, also called Cheops, built the Great Pyramid around 2500 BC. Noah Hutchings explains his opinion on the evidence.

Noah Hutchings: There is no documented information in any historical notes on Cheops as to exactly the time he reigned. There are some opinions as to when he reigned or how long he reigned, or if he was indeed the builder of the pyramid or any—the Great Pyramid or any of the pyramids.

Most who have studied the history of the pyramids like Larkin and Piazzi Smyth doubt that Cheops may have had anything at all to do with the building of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Josh Davis: You're listening to Noah Hutchings, long-time host of Watchman on the Wall, as we open the vault and go back down memory lane to some broadcasting from years gone by. One of the amazing discoveries around the Great Pyramid was a perfectly preserved ancient ship. It was discovered in 1954, and archaeologists discovered two boat pits buried at the southern foot of the Great Pyramid, covered by enormous limestone blocks.

One contained over 1,200 cedarwood pieces, which took 13 years to reassemble. A second boat was discovered as excavation began in about 2010 with Japanese cooperation, and that reassembled boat was fully unveiled at the Grand Egyptian Museum just last year. So, Noah based his teachings off of the information he had over 15 years ago, but he was asking the question: why would this ship be built, buried, and sealed for thousands of years? He explains as we return to this classic Watchman on the Wall episode.

Noah Hutchings: 40 or 50 years ago, it was discovered that there were two large underground vaults adjacent to the Great Pyramid. Now, one was uncovered and they found a ship about 150 feet long and about 20 feet wide. Now, the other vault has not been opened, and I understand that Egypt says they're not going to open it or don’t know when it'll be opened.

But now in this one vault, there was this ship. Now, this ship, a long ship, was made of cedar and sycamore wood, and I think maybe another wood was also involved there, but it was mainly sycamore and cedar. It was so well preserved in this tight vault that not even a worm or a termite could get in it. In fact, the air of some 5,000 years ago was captured in there and was still in there.

It was completely sealed. Nothing had bothered this ship since it was put in there, as I said, some 5,000 years ago. When they opened it up, the workers said they could even see their reflection in the sides of the cedar wood that made up this ship. That just shows that a lot of pains were taken to put this ship in there.

Now, it was called a solar ship because this may have been a ship that the pharaoh may have sailed on the Nile. Well, it may not have been the Nile. Now, satellite pictures indicate that instead of the river there coming up from the south and flowing north into the Mediterranean Sea, it was a huge river that flowed east and west across the Sahara Desert.

So, the Nile is not a river that was probably there before the flood. Now, there were great changes that occurred during the flood. The whole geography of the world was changed according to the Bible. It's indicated there in the area of Cairo because the river flowed east and west, not north and south. We know there were rivers before the flood because that's what we read in the book of Genesis. So, it's just amazing you go there and see that. If the Great Pyramid was built as a harbinger of God's coming fiery judgment, is there any indication in the Bible about this? Noah Hutchings answers as we return to this classic episode.

Noah Hutchings: We read in Ezekiel 29, if we turn to Ezekiel and we find that the world was destroyed by water, but there is also going to come a time when it’s going to be destroyed by fire. This is what Josephus brought out: that the pyramid was built to last as a warning to men that there was coming a time when the world would not suffer a judgment of water, but a judgment of fire. So, Josephus evidently had good grounds for writing from ancient historical notes what he said about the Great Pyramid. So, it's just interesting information that so much here that we have to consider.

Pastor Larry Spargimino is here ready to answer a question about angels. Pastor Larry, what is the secret work of angels?

Larry Spargimino: Angels do a work that is mainly hidden from human view. Angelic warfare is secret and hidden. We would not know about it unless it is revealed to us. For example, in Daniel chapter 10, we read that Daniel has prayed to the Lord, apparently for an urgent matter. 21 days earlier, that is three weeks earlier, God sent a messenger angel to Daniel, but Daniel has still not received an answer.

Beginning in chapter 10 verse 12, we read these words: “Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.”

Here we have an example of a believer praying to the Lord. The Lord has assigned a specific angel to bring the Lord's answer. However, we also learn that an evil angel, a territorial spirit associated with Persia, prevented the angelic messenger from getting through. Michael the Archangel came to help.

Angels also appear in dreams, as in Matthew chapter 2 verse 13 and following. An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and instructed Joseph to take the baby Jesus and his mother to escape to Egypt and stay there until further instructed. Herod is going to search for the child and kill him.

After Herod died, an angel of the Lord again appeared to Joseph in a dream and said that it is safe now to return to Israel. Something similar occurred to Cornelius, except that an angel appeared to him in a vision. We read the account in the opening verses of Acts 10.

The angel said to him, “Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God. And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter. He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the seaside: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.”

As we study about angels and the spirit world, we can't escape the reality that there is not only one reality but a parallel reality, a visible reality and an invisible reality, a universe and a multiverse. Angels are active in both realities.

Think of a curtain that separates this reality from the other. In the curtain is a portal, a doorway. Spirit beings like angels can come through this portal. Even humans on occasion can come through the portal. We have an example of it in Revelation 4 verses 1 and 2.

“After this I looked,” said John, “and behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.” In Revelation 7 verses 1 through 8, we are on earth; in verse 3, an angel says, “Hurt not the earth, neither the sea nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.”

In verse 9 and following, however, the scene is now in heaven: “After this I beheld and lo, a great multitude, which no man could number of all nations and kindreds and people and tongues, stood before the throne and before the lamb, clothed with white robes and palms in their hands.”

In the book of Revelation, angels unleash judgments on the earth. Yet, at other times they work behind the scenes quietly and secretly in dreams and visions.
