Here is today's host, author Micah Van Huss, ready to begin a brand new journey through the forgotten realms of ancient mythology and biblical truth with author and teacher Mac Dominick.

Micah Van Huss: Welcome to the program. I'm your host today, Micah Van Huss. I host *Marginal Mysteries* for Southwest Radio Ministries, and I hope you folks out there are having an excellent day. Today, here we have with us Mac Dominick. Mac is a friend of mine. We've been on the speaking circuit with Southwest for a few years now, and we've been writing books of similar topics. So Mac, how are you doing today?

Mac Dominick: I'm doing very well, Micah. Thank you.

Micah Van Huss: Well, it's good to have you, and I have been reading your new book, *Shadows of Evil*, and this is an excellent book. For folks who are interested in what is going on with spiritual warfare in our world today, I recommend picking up your copy of *Shadows of Evil*. But let's get into it, Mac Dominick. For listeners of your new book, readers of your new book, what is the core theme of *Shadows of Evil*?

Mac Dominick: Well, I think you said it, Micah. It is spiritual warfare because a lot of people have a concept of spiritual warfare that is more extra-biblical, and we want to get back to the biblical text. And that's what we're really trying to do here by doing this.

And by doing that, we are looking at the ancient gods. Where did they come from? Were they created beings? Were they always there? What are they? And then what were they doing in the Bible because we hear all these stories about the gods? Were they real? Were they the imaginary friends of ancient cultures, or are they real spiritual entities?

And we come to the conclusion in the book that these are real spiritual entities. They were created by God, the Creator God, and they dwell in the spiritual realms. They influence mankind; they did have a lot of influence in the times of the Bible, and they still do. We want to find out what are they doing today and what is the future as far as the false gods are concerned.

Because we find really that in our culture today, after the time of the Roman Empire, people no longer believed in the gods, and they more or less vanished off the scenes in most cultures. Now, we do have instances in India where there are over 3 million gods. There are cultures around the world that still worship other gods. But for Western civilization where we dwell, the gods have been pretty much relegated to the imagination of primitive cultures. And so we want to discover what is the truth, what are they doing, and what is the future as far as the ancient gods are concerned.

Micah Van Huss: So listening to you, I'm reminded of the meme or the saying of Satan's greatest accomplishment is convincing the world that he never existed.

Mac Dominick: That's right. That's right. And you know what has happened in the Western world? We had this little thing that came along back in the 18th century, 17th century, called the Enlightenment. And the enlightened mind of today does not believe in anything supernatural. Unfortunately, when you follow the Enlightenment to its logical conclusions, you eliminate anything supernatural including God the Father, God the Son Jesus Christ. You eliminate all of that, and you become a humanist, atheist, or an agnostic. And that's where our culture has gone.

Micah Van Huss: In your book, you describe mythologies as fake news versions of pre-flood events. So what opened your eyes to that connection?

Mac Dominick: Well, I believe, as you do, Micah, that the Genesis 6 scenario about the sons of God that came down from heaven, married daughters of men, and engendered a race of beings upon the earth that is known as the Nephilim. That word Nephilim appears in the original Hebrew of the Old Testament. Our English Bibles mainly translate that word as giants. That's because the Greeks with the—well, the translation of the Old Testament into the Greek, the Septuagint, called the Nephilim giants, but the Hebrew word is Nephilim.

And these entities ruled over the world prior to the flood. They—the sons of God themselves, the angels, ruled; their children ruled, and they are the ones that caused the earth to be so upsetting to God that he had to send the flood to get rid of them. And what was actually going on here is that the sons of God, the fallen angels, were interbreeding with human women and they were engendering this race of the Nephilim, but what it was doing, it was destroying the human race.

The Nephilim became giants; they were killing men; they were killing each other. There are extra-biblical accounts that even say they were eating each other, so they became cannibalistic. And it was really a situation that is beyond our imagination of how bad it was.

So basically, we had this time before the flood that the Greeks called the golden age of mankind when you had the Titans, who are a dead ringer for the sons of God. And then the offspring of the Titans and human women, we know that the Greek mythology talks about at least 64 women that Zeus alone had half-breed children with. So we see that there was being developed and produced a race of beings on the face of the earth that were not human.

And this was nothing more than Satan's plan to replace God's creation with a group of beings that would worship him. And also what this would do, this would get rid of the prophecy of the seed of the woman. You know, Genesis 3:15, where it says, "I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed, and thou shalt bruise his heel and he shall bruise thy head." That was the first promise of Messiah. Satan could read the word of God. Satan knew what was coming, and he wanted to get rid of the seed of the woman.

Now, what all that means for us is the accounts of Greek mythology, other pagan mythologies, whether it's Roman, Canaanite, Egyptian, Sumerian—all of those mythologies that speak of the gods make them into great heroes. I mean, you think about Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh was billed as a great hero, but it was said that he was two-thirds god and one-third man, which made him a Nephilim.

And so we have instances like that that archaeologists have discovered over the years. And basically, when we read the tales of Homer and the Greek mythology, these Nephilim like Perseus, for example, were great heroes to these people. And so what we see is these beings were not heroes at all. They were the most evil manifestation of a being that has been in the history of the world. And so, therefore, it is the fake news version that we see in pagan mythology.

And in even in our archaeology of the discovery of the Egyptian gods or the Mesopotamian gods, the Babylonian gods—all of these gods billed as heroes were not heroes at all. They were evil. They were anti-God. They wanted to destroy the creation of the Creator God, which meant all of us as human beings would have ceased to exist, would have never existed, because the human race would have been annihilated.

Which brings up a very interesting point in that most people, most Christians, read the biblical account of the flood and they think, "Oh my goodness, how can a loving God wipe out his whole creation like that?" Well, the truth of the matter is, is when we read the Bible, it talks about the fact that Noah found grace in the sight of God, and he was a man that was perfect in his generations.

That's really a strange kind of phrase there. What did it mean, perfect in his generations? It meant that he had no Nephilim in his family lineage. Therefore, he had a pure human bloodline. And so we can conclude from that statement in the Bible that the plot by Satan to destroy humanity, to destroy the possibility of the seed of the woman, was within one family of an extinction-level event that would have wiped out all of the human race.

And therefore, we see that the flood itself was not an act of a vengeful, spiteful God who just couldn't put up with sin. No, it was one of the greatest acts of grace we see in the entire Bible because had the flood not come, had Noah's family ultimately been corrupted with the sons of God and the Nephilim, the human race would have ceased to exist—a pure human race would have ceased to exist—and Jesus would have never been born. The seed of the woman would have never been born. There would never have been a sacrifice made for sin.

So God was preserving humanity by sending the flood that wiped out the Nephilim. And then, of course, he sent his angels to put the fallen angels, the original angels that started all this, into a place called Tartarus in the Greek. We see that in the book of 2nd Peter. Thank you for the correction. We see that in the book of 2nd Peter that they were assigned to this place in the lower parts of the earth known as Tartarus in the Greek. The only time that word appears in the Greek New Testament. And it is a place the Greeks knew because that's where Zeus incarcerated the Titans in the battle between the Titans and the Olympians—the Titanomachy, as they call it.

So we see that the time before the flood was a time of great upheaval, great conflict because of what went on with these angels that came down to Mount Hermon and married human women and engendered the race of the Nephilim.

And so Mac, everything you've been talking about, I agree. One of the things I like to say is there's a whole lot more truth to our mythologies than most folks like to admit. Mythologies, these are echoes of scripture. And one of the things you mentioned about the giants eating each other, we do find that in the Bible. Numbers chapter 13, the spies go into the land and it's filled with the inhabitants that eat the people of the land. They are the Anakim, the Rephaim. The verse literally says they are the giants. And so it's not just mythologies; these mythologies are echoes of scripture. And so you're absolutely correct.

Mac Dominick: May I make a statement along those lines? We do have to be very careful because some people listen to what I have to say and say, "Well, you're coming up with a new Gnostic type of take on the Bible because you're mixing the Bible with mythology." No, that's not what we're doing. Mythologies are a parallel path to what the Bible says. We look to the Bible as the only source of absolute truth. That is it. We don't go anywhere else for absolute truth other than the word of God.

But we can gain insights on the culture and the mindset of the people to whom the Bible was written back in its original form when we look at the culture and mythology of the time. So we're not mixing mythology with the word of God. We're looking at a parallel path to gain insight because one of the primary ways that we are to interpret scripture—we must interpret scripture in light of the culture of the people to whom the original was written. We need to remember the Bible was written for us, but it was not written to us. And so therefore, when we interpret scripture, we have to interpret it in the light of the culture to whom that it was originally written.

Micah Van Huss: You have already touched on two of the reasons that Jesus came to the earth—two of the spiritual rebellions. So in your book, you outlined the three supernatural rebellions: Genesis chapter 3, 6, and 11. Why are these three rebellions essential to understanding the state of our world today?

Mac Dominick: The truth is that the rebellions in Genesis 1 through 11 would be such earth-shattering events that they would shape the entire scope of human history. Let's start with the first one: the fall of Satan. And we're going to call the fall of Satan and the fall of man kind of linked together because they occurred about the same time. But I think a lot of Christians don't have a real good understanding even of the fall of Satan because you read the Bible and most people will say, "Okay, Satan fell sometime before God created the heavens and the earth. He took a third of the angels with him, and this group of fallen angels went after following Satan and went after corrupting mankind."

Well, you realize the Bible doesn't say that at all. The first indication we get of Satan's rebellion is when Satan tempted Eve in the garden. And guess what? According to the Bible, there wasn't a host of other fallen angels with him; he did it by himself. So for all we know, Satan did not fall until that very day.

So where do we get this idea that this group of angels fell before time, before the creation of the earth, and Satan had this army and he had this plan to destroy mankind with this group of other spiritual beings? Well, it's very interesting where you find that. You don't find that in the Bible, but you do find it in *Paradise Lost*. John Milton wrote a very, very persuasive poem entitled *Paradise Lost*, which described the fall of Satan and the fall of man and the loss of paradise, the loss of Eden.

But the truth of the matter is, is *Paradise Lost* is a myth. It is a myth that is based on the truth; it's based on the word of God, but all this other ancillary part of it is not scriptural. We do find in Revelation chapter 3 that eventually a third of the angels will join Satan in his final rebellion. But we don't know—angels could be rebelling against God right now. You know, over the period course of time, that could have happened. It all did not have to happen back when Satan fell.

Satan rebelled, yes. Satan tempted Eve. And Eve persuaded Adam. Adam was—Eve was deceived. Adam fell of loving his wife more than he loved God. And we see all those things that happen, and yes, Satan was responsible. We see Satan appear in the book of Job; we see him throughout all of scripture. But the fact of the matter is, we only the only indication we have of the fall of Satan is in Genesis chapter 3, when Satan shows up in the Garden of Eden and tempts Eve. So that is the fall of Satan.

We referred to the fallen angels, the Watchers, that married human women. We talked a lot about that, so we're not going to go into that one. The third rebellion is the rebellion at the Tower of Babel. This was very significant because this one really concerns us today because the Tower of Babel was actually a ziggurat that was under construction. And there were several things that were going on here that people don't realize.

You know, every preacher or teacher that I ever heard in my entire life—and I've been going to Bible-believing churches for 60 years, I believe—anytime the Tower of Babel has been brought up, it has been brought up that this was one of the most desperate accounts of human pride in all of history because these people actually thought they could build a tower that would reach up to God, to make for themselves a name.

And so what we have here is pastors and teachers that want to find a practical application of scripture or make the Bible a book of life choices and those types of things. And that's not a bad thing, but they get so carried away with that, they miss what the Bible is actually saying and what the supernatural impact is.

We know that archaeology has discovered over 25 ziggurats in Iran and Iraq. And they are in various levels of ruin and decay, but there's over 25 of them. The question that I would ask is why did God pick on this one? I mean, there's something going on here that didn't go on at the other 24. Something deeply spiritual and deeply evil was going on here.

Dr. Douglas Hamp has done a lot of research on this, and he has concluded, and other scholars have concluded the same thing, that basically what was happening at the Tower of Babel—well, number one, Nimrod, who the Bible says built Babel. And by the way, the word Babel in the Tower of Babel is the same word in the Hebrew as Babylon. There is no difference in the two words; they're just translated differently in our Bible. So we could say the Tower of Babylon.

Nimrod built Babylon, and so it's a great implication here and inference that Nimrod actually led the revolt at what we call the Tower of Babel. And so Nimrod led this revolt against God. And it was—yes, it was an act of pride, but Nimrod was building something in defiance of God because God told Noah and his family to multiply and replenish the earth. Well, they were all in one place on the plain of Shinar in disobedience to what God said.

And Nimrod was trying to build his one-world empire with a one-world system of government. And he actually wanted to bring back the Watchers who were chained in Tartarus. We talked about that earlier. He wanted to loose them. So the Tower of Babel was built as a dimensional portal to go to Tartarus, bring out the Watchers so they can conclude what they started before the flood.

And it would have been again a mass extinction event to get rid of the human race, to get rid of the seed of the woman. It was the same story again. That is why God acted so drastically in changing people's languages and scattering them across the face of the earth. It wasn't because of pride. It was because of the fact that Nimrod here was trying to release the Watchers.

And oh, by the way, the first time we see the mention of false gods in the Old Testament is 1,500 years after the flood when Rachel hid Laban's family gods in her saddlebag. And a lot of people don't realize that, but before the flood, we don't see any mention of false gods. But the archaeology that we have from ancient Mesopotamia, there are hundreds and hundreds of false gods mentioned. Who did this? Nimrod did this at the Tower of Babel. He brought in the worship of the false gods.

And God reacted by scattering the people. And also we know that God also set over the nations other sons of God that turned their backs on God, did not rule justly, and they became worshipped as what became regional gods. And then God had for his own inheritance the nation of Israel. Guess what? Those gods are still ruling over the Gentile nations today, and that includes the United States of America.

Micah Van Huss: Such a fascinating topic. Deuteronomy 32:8 is where you mainly base that. I agree with you. Fascinating topic, folks.
