You're About to Inherit it All #4 of 4

May 10, 2010
We humans are capable of some pretty awful things. The long history of war, oppression and greed proves that. Being basically selfish, we'd never turn from sin were it not for the grace of God being extended to us. Redemption is entirely God's idea, that theme runs through the whole Bible. And God's children inherit the riches of that redemption.

"If God be for us, who can be against us?" Paul's great question in Romans chapter eight is one we must answer. Some point to circumstances and say they've been abandoned by God. How do we reconcile the promise of the Bible with the reality of our personal situations? Today: another look at a famous portion of scripture, and some help in making it real.

How would you react if a lawyer called, saying you'd just inherited a million dollars from a distant relative? Disbelief? Sure, but later, reality would sink in when the check was placed in your shaking hands. Well, if you're a believer, you have a check waiting for you at the bank of heaven. And it's for far more than a mere million. Listen here for the details.

None of us chose to be born to our parents. It would be folly to think we could've had a say in coming into this world. The birth process into God's family is no different. Peter says, "as newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the word." God graciously makes sure we are spiritually born, and then provides the resources we need to grow in that grace as His children.

Those who believe in Jesus and have found new life all share a common reality: they were chosen by God in eternity past. Before they were born, God knew they would share in His eternal kingdom. This would involve forgiving their sins and declaring them to be as righteous as His Son. If life now seems uncertain, know this: your future is as secure as the God who will make sure you get there.

Trying to understand fully the mind of God is a bit like taking a drink from a firehose. There's way too much for us to grasp. Comprehending His purposes in the crucial area of personal salvation is something we need to come to grips with. In the majestic eighth chapter of Romans, the matter is at the core of Paul's teaching. Today: a clear look at what, for many, is a hard-to-understand part of the Christian faith.

These days, seeker-friendly churches are everywhere. We assume people will seek God, if we make them comfortable. As a believer matures in the faith, he or she comes to realize that salvation is not so much a result of our seeking God as it is the result of God choosing us first. Listen to learn why, if God had not done this, none of us would ever have chosen Him.

Some people face adversity with a dour disposition. "What next," they say. Such people don't see a larger Hand at work. The hand of God moves in the lives of His people to bring about good even when the circumstances are bad. Through the eye of faith, we who know Him can be sure that a better day is coming, and we can live triumphantly no matter what comes our way.

"All things work together for good to them who love God..." does this promise include tragedy and disasters? It's easy to see God's hand when blessings are flowing, it's tougher when all we sense is bad news. Today we look at some ways God uses life's rough spots to fashion in us the character He desires to see. Stay tuned for more from a famous chapter in the book of Romans.

Some call them delusional. They gaze in wonder at believers who accept even tragedy as part of a greater good. Only a Christian can be certain that all of life is heading toward a future glory. That's why a believer can know that all things, even the bad things, work together for good for those who love God. For a challenging message on a famous Bible verse, please stay with us.
