Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. There aren't many things anyone can be sure of anymore. But despite the economy, we can be certain of one thing. If we are believers in Christ, we have a future beyond the reach of the bill collector, beyond the reach of our failures and sins, a future safe in the hands of the God who guarantees that for us as believers, there is no condemnation ahead in the life to come.

The economy might soon tank, stocks might plummet, foreclosures might rise. So where is your security found? If you know Christ as savior, your bank deposits are safe, perfectly safe, where "moth and rust cannot corrupt." That bank is not of this world, and, as a child of God, neither are you. Today we look into a Bible chapter listing more blessings than we can ever fathom.

Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." God gave this command to parents, not governments. Throughout history, tyrants have always targeted the young, requiring them to be educated in government schools. Do they take Proverbs more literally than many believers? Today we see a clarion call for parents to face, and embrace, their obligations.

There's a cardinal rule for all who seek to oppress a people: control the flow of information that the people receive. In the past, that meant turning newspapers into government mouthpieces. Now the job is harder. Technology has increased the avenues through which information can travel. And so, propaganda must become ever more sophisticated. Today we look at the power of propaganda.

Dictators know that imposing laws is step one in achieving absolute power. Control the laws, and you control the people. Laws provide the framework for arrest and prosecution, they instill in people a fear of what might happen if they break those laws. The Christian knows that there is always a higher law, no matter what government may claim. The result is the dilemma of when to disobey those in power.

U.S. unemployment: close to 10 percent. Add those who've given up looking for work and the real rate approaches 20 percent. American voters know one thing: if they don't have jobs, they have an economic crisis. And when they see government wasting trillions as jobs get more scarce, they revolt, as we saw when Scott Brown upset decades of Democratic control in Massachusetts.

Psalm 33:12 says "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." What about a nation whose God is no longer the Lord? History is replete with nations abandoning God and suffering the inevitable consequences. Nazi Germany began with an evil vision of conquest and ended in a pile of ruins. Today we will discuss a powerful new book that details what this downfall might mean for America.

When Jesus died on Calvary, He wasn't the victim, He was the Victor. He said His last words, and then dismissed His spirit. Jesus was in charge then, and now. Ascended on high, He intercedes for His people, having prepared for them an eternal home. Today we hear a few lessons we can take home from the last words of Christ on the cross.

When Jesus died on the cross, He knew the Father had everything in perfect control. Even His enemies were in God's hands. As we face death, we learn from Jesus that in that supreme moment, trust in God will carry us across the threshold into eternal life. We need not fear what lies ahead, because what's there is in God's capable hands. Today we look at the last words of Christ on the cross.

No doubt most people live for the here and now. They'll do anything to avoid thinking about their future date with death. Certainly, Jesus taught us how to live. But He also taught us how to die. Since all of us will face that eventual day, let's learn some crucial lessons from the last words of Christ on the cross. Today: we'll hear "A Cry of Submission."
