In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. In the Old Testament, God seems harsh. In the New Testament, He is seen as a God of love. Some wonder if a kinder, gentler God emerged after Jesus came. But God has not changed in His attributes and purposes. He still judges sin and draws near to the repentant.

If you’re a dad and your son is gravely ill in the hospital, you would do anything to trade places and bear your son’s pain. The same is true for God the Father. When His Son Jesus agonized on the cross, God felt the pain His Son was enduring, knowing that Jesus was paying the price for our sin.
