When We Wait For God Part 1

August 30, 2022

Whether it’s long grocery lines or long waits for answered prayer, God uses these unplanned “waits” to mold our character. There is a sharp contrast between human manipulation and God’s timetable. In this message from Psalm 37, we investigate four ways we should wait for God. Let’s slow down and let God be God.

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. It’s the height of folly to think we can hide our sins from God. Caught red-handed in great sin, David came clean before God and others. In this message from Psalm 32, we identify three lessons for anyone who attempts to hide their sin. What does it take to be fully forgiven by the God who sees everything we do?

Time will deaden the conscience—not cleanse it. Sin has both immediate and long-term consequences, and only being fully forgiven removes our sense of condemnation. In this message from Psalm 32, we study three stages of David’s confession of sin: the burden, the agony, and ultimately the blessing. Will we expose our soul before our forgiving Savior?

We might agree that God is in control of everything, but do we trust Him with our lives? God has revealed Himself to us as a Shepherd. We can relax in His loving care. In this message from Psalm 23, we consider four lessons for needy sheep like us. Let’s learn the value of the personal pronoun by asking ourselves: “Is He ‘my’ shepherd?”

We can feel unworthy of God’s blessing. We are, in fact, unworthy but He chooses to bless us. The Great Shepherd takes an interest in every lamb. In this message from Psalm 23, we reflect on how God, our Shepherd, guides, protects, and comforts His people like sheep. Though we are incredibly needy, He takes responsibility for us.

Politicians speak of conspiracies against them. But the real conspiracy is that of the nations of the world in revolt against God. In this message, we consider three different responses—three kisses—we can give to the true King. Despite attempts to remove God from society, our God in heaven laughs at any attempts to thwart His purposes. We can take refuge in Him.

Everywhere we look in our nation, the Christian faith is under attack. Many ask, “Is God really in charge or is He indifferent?” In this message, Pastor Lutzer traces some blatant attacks on Christians, showing four distinct voices within Psalm 2 which reveal God’s plan for the world. Though the nations are rebellious, God is on His throne.

Our lives can have meaning, significance, and value—the kind that lasts. Peter’s life and two epistles to the church have left a legacy that goes on into eternity. In this message, we find three reasons why Peter’s life has eternal repercussions. It’s not just because of what he believed or what he did, it’s also about who he became.

Some of us are in prisons made by others or even ourselves. How could God possibly sustain us in our “prisons”? In Acts 12, Peter was in jail—about to be executed. In this message, we unlock three lessons from Peter’s prison experience: God’s sovereignty, His triumph, and His power. God will be glorified even in our darkest dungeons.

God wants us to watch for Him even in the darkest times of our life. Sometimes, like in Peter’s circumstances, God walks us through prisons. In this message from Acts 12, we notice three unbreakable links in the chain of God’s providence. Through this miraculous story, we discover that we are not abandoned—even in prison.

What do people really need? The Apostle Peter didn’t have extensive resources and neither do we. In this message, we discover the effect our lives have on others, and why we, like Peter, must live in the power of the Holy Spirit. If we stand in the light of Christ, our shadows will impact others with resources that are far beyond our own power.
