Our concept of justice is based on personal feelings, not on any absolute reference point. That is why hell seems unjust. But God has set the reference point for justice, and He has created hell to display that justice forever. Opinion polls carry lots of weight today, but in eternity, they will not mean much. Only God's opinion will matter at all.

To most people, hell is just a swear word…after all, who really believes in demons, pitchforks, and hot licking flames? Modern misconceptions of hell have made it a myth to most people. But hell is very real, and very certain for those who die without Christ. Once this life is over, unbelievers will face the real terrors of death.

Revelation chapter 20 paints a picture of a great crowd of those who are not redeemed, standing before a great white throne of judgment. And those before this throne all share a common destination: a lake of fire. The very word brings to mind hopelessness and torment. Hell: it is a place of judgment that few take seriously anymore. But that is a mistake. Hell is just as certain as heaven, and God makes it clear that He has made a way for you to escape the one and enjoy the other. Today: a stark picture of a terrible destiny...a destiny you need not face.

While heaven is a place of smiles, it is also a place of tears. There will be regrets to deal with, sorrows to work through. But as we understand His purposes more fully, God will wipe away those tears as we praise Him who does all things well.
