When Darkness is Light and Light is Darkness, Part 1 of 4 (The Church in Babylon)

January 6, 2015

We are living in a time when we desperately need to engage our culture with the only message that has any hope of transforming it. As Pastor Lutzer explores various approaches to the relationship between the state and the church, he reminds us that spiritual redemption, not political reformation, is at the heart of God’s agenda. Only the church, not a political party, can bear God’s message to a hurting world. Click below to receive this book for a gift of any amount or call Moody Church Media at 1.800.215.5001.

Jeremiah 2:13 says that Israel forsook God, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out broken cisterns for themselves which can hold no water. For this, God’s judgment fell. Have we in the modern church hewed out broken cisterns?

In the divided kingdom, Israel in the north had been carried into captivity by the Assyrians. In the south, the prophet Jeremiah told Judah of God’s coming judgment. Despite a clear warning, the people clung to their idols and did not repent. Does this sound familiar?

Another year ends at the stroke of midnight. What does not end is God’s plan for us in the new year. Finding His will is a lifelong quest, and in seeking Him, the details of life come into focus.  When they do, we will know that we have found the right road.

Is God’s will elusive? Does He try to make it hard to find? As the new year dawns, what lies ahead in the plan of God? The best advice is to take one step at a time. As we are learning, God’s will is a series of small events that ultimately take us where He wants us to go.

A new year is like a seemingly blank parchment to us. What will happen is known only to God. Thus it only makes sense to allow God to order our steps in the uncertain days ahead, because no one can do it better.

On a pivotal day in Bethlehem, God sent his only Son to live among us, a day marked by a chorus of jubilant angels. Today we will discuss why those angels were rejoicing and why we can rejoice with them this Christmas.

Angels are God’s messengers, and Luke tells us that angels were instrumental in making Christ’s birth known over the skies of Bethlehem. Royalty was coming into the world in a king who would live, die, and then rise again to return in glory.
December 25, 2014
Angels had a joyous task over 2,000 years ago, announcing the good news of the Savior’s birth. The skies over Bethlehem were ablaze with light as poor shepherds cowered in fear.

God’s angels do His bidding, protect His children, and fight demonic forces in unseen places. The angels always point us to God Himself. They know what we need to know:  that God is seated on the throne of His glory.
