Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. If you pop the hood of a car, you’ll see an array of parts all working together.  If one’s out of place, the whole engine will grind to a halt.  It’s similar in the local church.  If people are not serving where God wants them to serve, the ministry and effectiveness of the church is damaged.

God has a place of service for every Christian, and He has dispensed a spiritual gift every Christian can use to benefit others in that place of service. If we fail to use our gifts, the body of Christ suffers. But how can we identify our gifts and put them to work?

Only God has the power needed to raise sinners from the dead and give them new life. It’s a myth that humanity can contribute to salvation, and if believed, the lie can have eternal consequences.

The Bible says that only God’s righteousness opens heaven’s doors. That’s why we’re deceived if we believe that “God helps those who help themselves.”

In one sense it’s true: God helps those who help themselves. But when it comes to salvation, that saying is a lie. We can’t add anything to the work that’s already been done to secure our eternal future.

A lot of people think that “God helps those who help themselves.” But when it comes to salvation, we must understand what God really says: we can’t help ourselves. Only He can save.

Americans believe in “the pursuit of happiness.” Many think this means not pursuing the will of God. For them, the two are mutually exclusive.  That’s not the case.

Long-term financial gain is often short-circuited when investors go for short-term profits. The same is true in life. Going for immediate pleasures can short-circuit our potential to enjoy the overwhelming pleasures of God.
November 13, 2015
The good news: God wants you to experience pleasure. The bad news: a lot of us don’t know what real pleasures are. Those who think sin opens pleasure’s door have no clue what satisfaction God wants to give His children.
