When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. How should believers prepare themselves for the tough times looming on the horizon? Let’s look at more lessons from Jeremiah chapter one, as the prophet of Israel faces a rough future, as he suffers along with those God is judging.

When the house of cards called “debt” comes crashing down, everybody loses. Society may well break down if hyperinflation ruins our currencies. God can allow human greed to cause massive suffering. But how exactly does God exact judgment on nations?

The world economy teeters on the edge. Uncertainty is now certain. Believers have to live through the same conditions as everyone else… just as in ancient Israel, when judgment fell on the nation for idolatry. Can we see ourselves in the times of Jeremiah?

Today’s church is rich in wealth, but poor in spiritual power. That’s the same indictment handed down by Jesus to the ancient church at Laodicea. He may have had our day in mind when He said, “Because you say ‘I’m rich’… you don’t know that you’re wretched, miserable, blind and naked.”

Jesus had strong words for the lukewarm Laodicean church in Revelation chapter three. His tough love included a way for them to regain their lost fervor. His rebuke and chastening would lead to renewal and power.

As Jesus evaluated seven successive churches in the book of Revelation, some Bible scholars see the passing of history, with each church representing an era of time. Is your church spiritually robust, or, like the one at Laodicea, is it lukewarm?

The early church at Philadelphia earned high marks from Jesus for its faithfulness and its vision. They persevered, they kept His word, and they never denied His name. They demonstrate the importance of seizing the open doors Jesus sets before us.

In what is now Turkey, the church at Philadelphia was commended by Jesus for being faithful to His name. Churches still grow even in hostile places… churches about which Jesus says, “I’ve set before you an open door, and no one can shut it.”

Jesus addressed seven local churches in the book of Revelation. Often, His words were sharp. But to one church, His words were only kind. Why was this church praised? Can we hear the same words of commendation?
