It's one thing to believe that the righteousness of Jesus can be credited to our account before a holy God. But it's another to put that knowledge to use when we find ourselves sinning every day. The devil keeps accusing us of falling short of God's standards. Today: some practical ways to wear "The Breastplate of Righteousness."

In some religions, the idea is: do as many good works as you can. At your judgment, you hope the good works outweigh the bad. Believers can rejoice that Jesus bestows His personal righteousness as a gift on those who are His. God sees our sins through the perfection of His Son, and can legally declare us as righteous as He is. This stops the devil in his tracks.

Inside, we all know that the slightest sin separates us from the white-hot purity of God. And we all commit sin. Satan the accuser points to us as Christians to say "Look at you. You sinned again. You have no right to stand before a holy God. Give up...there's no hope, you'll ever see heaven." But there is one way to stop his foul mouth cold. Today, you'll learn what it is.

Go to any bookstore. There you'll find a plethora of authors spewing outright lies about the God revealed in the Bible. Whether it's about witchcraft, New Age spirituality, or pseudo-science, these books seek to muddy the clear waters God has given us in scripture. The onslaught is fierce, and we need a good defense...a defense like "The Belt of Truth" as revealed in Ephesians.

It's as old as the Garden of Eden: Satan whispering lies into our ears, lies about the nature and character of God. We're all born with a propensity to believe those lies, lies that tell us that disobeying God is the path to true freedom. Before you bite into that apple, listen for a way to guard against falling for the devil's falsehoods.

Like it or not, we're all in a spiritual war. We can either succumb to Satan's devices, or, wear God's armor and fight. The Apostle Paul revealed the weapons of the armor of God in the book of Ephesians. And the first weapon we've been given is "The Belt of Truth." Today, we'll find out why we need this weapon, and, how to best use it.

The peace of Eden's garden was shattered when sin entered the world. Down through the ages, the damage continues to mount. As believers in Jesus, our eyes have been opened to the reality of a spiritual war that never stops. Satan is determined to thwart God's work in your life, and in mine. His plan, however, is destined to utterly fail. And you and I have a part in winning this war.

Our lives may seem peaceful, but always in the background is the sound of war. That's because there is a war going on. That war is in a place we cannot see. Demonic forces wage a battle against the saints of God on a daily basis, a battle that won't end until we enter the eternal state. Our job: learn to use God's weapons, that we may share in the ultimate victory.

Iraq, Afghanistan, the Middle East, terror attacks across the globe, war... it seems, is never far away. That's just on the plane of existence we can see. But beyond what our senses can discern is a greater war, a cosmic conflict of the ages being fought by Satan and his legions against the purposes and plans of God.
