The Mystery Of The Manger, Part 1 of 2 (The Mystery Of Bethlehem)

December 25, 2019

When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. When mankind rebelled against God, the chasm between the two was infinite. Divine justice demanded payment for this great sin. Only God could bridge this gap, and He did so by sending Jesus into the world, born into a peasant family in Israel. This baby was much more than met the eye. He speaks of Himself in the Bible’s last book as the Alpha and Omega.

The Apostle Paul wrote of a deep mystery: “great is the mystery of godliness; God was manifest in the flesh.” At Christmas we remember a night like no other, the night Jesus was born on planet Earth.

People in deep bondage are often under the illusion that they are free. Many of the religious leaders of Jesus’ day thought they were free, and they didn’t like being told that they needed deliverance. We can be delivered, for Jesus came to set us free.

Jesus said, “Everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. If the Son sets you free, you shall be free indeed.” That’s great news! Freedom is more than avoiding jail. Freedom is living without the shackles of sin.

“Greater love hath no man, than a man lay down his life for his friends.” That’s what Jesus said, and that’s what He did. There is no greater love than the love of God through His Son, and that’s the greatest Christmas gift one could receive this year.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” The life He offers to those who believe is an eternal one. This Christmas let’s be thankful for the life our Savior promises, a life that transcends our temporary time in this world.

At Christmas, we would rather not think about the end of life. But the eternal life Jesus provided for those who believe means that death is not the end. In one sense, Jesus becomes the beginning of the real life we were meant to have.

The lights of Christmas come down in January. But the light Jesus brings into the hearts of believers can burn brighter every day. Sin, however, can quickly obscure that light, so we must be diligent to walk in obedience.

With joyful carols filling the air, the Christmas season is upon us. Economy experts say the season is pivotal for retailers, and during this time of year many get caught up in the materialistic desires of our culture. It’s sad that so much darkness is around us, but that’s why we look to Jesus as our source of light.

What kind of legacy will you and I leave behind? The Apostle Paul left a legacy of faithfulness to Christ to the very end of his life. He died as a martyr in Rome. But how should we as Christians face death today?
