The Light Shines In A Prison, Part 2 of 2 (Light Shining In Darkness)

March 5, 2019

The enduring power of the Gospel was felt in the world of the first century. The Holy Spirit began convicting of sin, causing a fearful jailer to ask, “What must I do to be saved?” In this message we learn of prison doors flinging open and faith being birthed anew in the hearts of men and women.

When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. The Bible calls the Gospel “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” That power was felt in the early church, and in this message, we’ll begin tracing the impact the Gospel made in the first century.

The heroes of faith in Hebrews chapter eleven include ordinary people like you and me. They believed God despite not seeing immediate responses to their prayers. We too can exhibit their kind of faith. We can believe God no matter what.

Some wonder what good it is to have faith in God when He never seems to answer their prayers. Many lose what faith they have and give up on God altogether. In this message we look at the heroes of faith who believed God no matter what.

When our faith in God is genuine, it causes us to make choices in God’s favor. We willingly take the risk of being alienated from those around us when we choose God’s way over that of the world. That’s what Moses did, as we read in Hebrews chapter eleven.

Some people say they have faith, yet their lives show little evidence of it. Others who have faith are willing to take risks to live out that faith. In this message we focus on this latter kind of faith, the kind that will survive when times of testing come.

We’re all susceptible to moral sin. And with the internet, we’re more vulnerable than ever. Our entire culture is sinking into a pit of moral decay. The issue is serious, and it demands a radical solution. Jesus himself offers us words on dealing with impurity.

There’s a good reason why the Bible tells us to guard our hearts. We must consider the mind of a sexual addict to see what leads someone there, and then prescribe steps we should take to prevent being addicted to explicit images.

The Bible bluntly says, “Touch no unclean thing.” In the midst of our technological age which is filled with sensuality, we must take bold steps and make choices that honor God. It matters where we scroll, swipe, type, or click, and we must choose each day to avoid sexual sin.

Christians are torn. Do we abandon technology we can’t live without and become isolated from the culture? Or do we risk exposure to violence and sexual images while trying to engage the world we live in? God speaks to us through 2 Corinthians 6.

Many believers are bound in moral sins—sins made easy by anonymous internet access to pornography. Only the truth of God’s Word will convince us to make right choices rather than follow a slippery slope into sexual sin.
