The Bible calls the gospel “the power of God.” That word “power” in Greek is the word that gives us “dynamite” in English.” That power began to be felt in the early church, and today we’ll begin tracing the impact the gospel made in the first century.

Being a winning athlete means getting knocked around a lot. Most sports take quite a physical toll on those who strive for victory. It’s no different in the race of life. It’s only through some hard knocks that we learn to help others face their hard knocks. Learning to endure hardness was advice Paul gave, advice you and I need to hear in this age of self-gratification.

We see this in Jesus’ own 40-day example in the wilderness. Fasting is avoiding food altogether in order to rely on God for strength. That’s what Jesus needed. Could it be what you need as well?
