The newborn church was now alive and well, and those in Jerusalem couldn’t help but notice the profound love these disciples shared. This new community was quickly making a mark on its culture, drawing many, and repelling others.

The Holy Spirit binds believers together. Even when meeting someone you don’t know, there’s an intangible sense of fellowship when that person is a brother or sister in Christ. That sense of community is another evidence of the reality of the Holy Spirit.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit places all who believe in Jesus into a new community: a fellowship of those indwelt by the Spirit as evidence of their new birth in Christ. Jesus stood on a feast day and cried out to the crowd that those who believed in Him would experience rivers of living water in their souls. He didn’t offer us a recipe. He offered a relationship—He offered Himself. That’s an amazing invitation, one everyone should heed.
