The sin nobody sees can light fires of lasting conflict. Covetousness, longing for what others have, is a recipe for ongoing discontent. And God’s will for us is to be content. The tenth commandment makes it clear: we are not to covet.

Theft is theft, whether large or small. It can be obvious theft, such as robbery; but it can also be hidden theft, such as tax fraud, stealing time, or even not paying back a loan. Today in our study of the eighth commandment, we consider how when we steal, we steal from God.

Stealing is on the rise as people say, “what’s yours is mine.” It’s more than burglary. People steal from their employers with hardly a second thought. We forget that stealing of any kind violates one of the Ten Commandments.
