Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. The winning athlete is invariably the one who understands discipline. Just as it takes discipline to win at the track, we can be sure it takes discipline to win in the race of life. In this message we look at the first of five disciplines of the Christian life.

We can be sure that our faith will always lead to ultimate victory, even if we never see the rewards of that faith while still in this life. That was true for many of the heroes of faith in the Bible. In this message we see that Abraham was one of those heroes.

The heroes of faith in Hebrews chapter eleven include ordinary people. They believed God despite not seeing immediate responses to their prayers. We, too, can exhibit their kind of faith. We can trust God, no matter what comes.

Some wonder what good it is to have faith in God when He never seems to answer their prayers. Many lose what faith they have and give up on God altogether. In this message we look at the heroes of faith who believed God no matter what.

The rewards of our faith are not primarily found in this life. In the life to come, God bestows rewards for faithfulness. Like the heroes of faith in Hebrews eleven, we need to set our sights on heaven, realizing that then, this life’s pain will be worth it all.

When our faith in God is genuine, it causes us to make choices in God’s favor. We willingly take the risk of alienating those around us when we choose God’s way over that of the world. That’s what Moses did, as we read in Hebrews chapter eleven.

Some people say they have faith, yet their lives show little evidence of it. Others who have faith are willing to take risks to live out that faith. In this message we focus on this latter kind of faith, the kind that will survive when times of testing come.

Life for Martin Luther took a dramatic turn after a narrow escape from death. The Reformer would marry and raise a family. In this message we travel again to Wittenberg and learn about Martin Luther’s life with Katie von Bora.

For ten months, Martin Luther hid from certain death in a single room in a castle in Eisenach, Germany. Here he translated the New Testament into German, allowing common people to read the Bible for themselves. In this message we visit the very room where spiritual battles were fought, and won.

Would you stand before kings and princes, and refuse to recant your faith, even if you knew it meant certain death? Martin Luther showed us how to be a faithful witness. In this message we go to the site of a council that condemned Luther as a heretic.
