There is a love so vast that it cannot be measured, much less comprehended. That love was displayed on a brutal cross. We can only run the race of life toward heaven because Jesus Christ hung on that cross to bear the penalty for our disobedience and rebellion. Today, we probe again the profound mystery of the ultimate sacrifice.

Buried in the depths of the purposes of God lies the answer to this question: why did God send His Son to the cross? As we run life's daily race, let's not forget that mercy is getting what you don't deserve. God was not obligated to save any of us, and yet He has. Today, we begin an awesome look at how far God went to provide redemption for a lost mankind.

Paul wrote: "The preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." This poses a difficult question, a question that lies at the very core of the church's mission. How do you effectively take that cross to those who think it's foolish? Today, some final thoughts on "What Man Thinks of the Cross."

To many people the cross is a piece of jewelry, or what's atop a church steeple. Most people don't see it as it really is... the centerpiece of history and the core of God's redemptive agenda. In recent days on Running to Win we've been exploring God's view of the cross, but today we'll focus on man's viewpoint. As we'll soon see, the contrast is startling.

If something is important to God, it had better be important to us. And the one thing central in God's agenda is the cross. What happened on the cross of Christ was not just another static moment in time. As we read the pages of scripture, we find that the cross existed in God's mind from the beginning, and will exist in the endless future yet to be.

In one sense, the cross of Christ was just ordinary wood, used for six hours to kill a man. Ultimately, it was much more. That cross was in God's mind from eternity past. Its benefits extend to eternity yet to be. It is history's great intersection: the place of God's greatest expression of love to fallen mankind. Today: more about "What God Thinks of the Cross."

The cross of Christ is the centerpiece of our faith, and the means by which forgiveness comes. It's in the cross that we glory. As we run life's race, our eyes are often drawn to secondary things such as political advantage. In the final analysis, we need to have a clear view of how important the cross really is. Today, we'll learn what God the Father thinks of His Son's cross.

Believers have a dual allegiance: they must obey both God and country. Sometimes, these two mandates collide, leaving us facing some tough decisions.
