Americans are adrift in a sea of moral relativism. These days, what's wrong is now right; what was right is now wrong. At a time of same-sex marriage and rampant abortion, we need a moral compass - a fixed point of reference. The cross of Christ is that point, that basis for morality. And the church must live by that basis if our culture is to avoid total decay.

Moral schizophrenia: in our society it's OK to kill a baby right before birth, but it's murder to kill one after birth. That's what happens when moral choices are set by the will of the majority. Confusion reigns....and the price tag is devastating. We can keep eating the bitter fruit of rebelling against God, or we can turn to Him in faith, and adopt His standards for behavior.

Without a ruler, you can't measure how long something is. And without some kind of moral compass, you can't tell right from wrong. And as we'll learn today, a culture that rejects Christ is a culture that sets up itself as the yardstick for moral choices. And those choices lead to polling place choices that help determine a nation's destiny. So where does true morality come from?

One day there will be no more racial or ethnic divisions. One day, redeemed humanity will glory only in the cross...that's the picture the Bible paints in the book of Revelation. Their races of life long past, numberless saints from every nation will exalt the Lamb of God. Now here's some good news: it's possible for the church to mirror that future reality today.

Many who seek racial justice call for "a level playing field" of equal opportunity. There is a place where the field is level... and that place is at the foot of the cross of Christ. The tragedy of racial and ethnic violence is that it's not getting any better. Military and diplomatic efforts don't remove the hate. In places like the Middle East, it takes a common denominator to bring unity to the chaos of "us versus them." Dialog and negotiations aren't enough. Today: we'll see why the cross of Christ is the only common link that can ever work.

Rwanda…Kosovo...the Gaza strip. Many of today's tragic conflicts stem from deep-rooted racial or ethnic strife. It seems there is no human solution to this dilemma.....but there is a divine solution. There is a place of common ground for those who can't stand the sight of each other. Today we'll learn why the cross of Christ can bring together mortal enemies.

Outside of Jerusalem a transaction took place that shook the foundations of creation. Jesus, the Messiah, died. Then, as now, people passed by, not realizing the eternal consequences of what was happening on that cruel cross. Through his death, Jesus made a bridge between God and man so that we could cross over to eternal life. Today: more about the wonder of the supreme sacrifice.

There is a love so vast that it cannot be measured, much less comprehended. That love was displayed on a brutal cross. We can only run the race of life toward heaven because Jesus Christ hung on that cross to bear the penalty for our disobedience and rebellion.
