That Must Come To Pass #3 of 3

August 15, 2008
If only we had eternal eyes, and could see the end from the beginning. The race of life we run would look far different. With eternal eyes we'd see all those things we could not change, but tried to change, and understand why God placed them in our lives. In eternity, we'll have that understanding...but for now, we must rest in the wisdom of God.

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Consider certainties...in life there may be few, but in the plan of God there are some things that must happen. Every race must have a winner. Every word of scripture must be fulfilled. Indeed, there are some things we can, and must, be sure of. This was true for Jesus, and it's true for you and me. Open your heart and mind to the word "must," and stay with us.

In every Olympic race, someone must win. Someone must take home the gold medal, the supreme emblem of victory. In running life's race we sometimes labor under the illusion that we can control all the variables of life. But the real truth is this: there are some things that must happen. And when God says they must, they will. What are these things? To find out, stay with us.

Our eyes can only see light in a narrow spectrum. Beyond blue is ultraviolet, beyond red is infrared. There is much we do not see, and as we run life's race, it's good to get a new perspective. Getting a fresh view of how God sees things can help us run and not be weary. His view takes in all the wavelengths, and He's revealed what that view includes.

A face in the crowd, a passing worry, a minor ache...a runner can be easily sidetracked from focusing on the race at hand. All of us need to prioritize our thinking, not "major on the minors" when it comes to life's really big issues. That's because life's big issues really cross the bridge into eternity's big issues. If you want to set your sights on the ultimate horizon, stay with us.

If you believe the media, what matters most is either who gets elected, who's caught up in the latest scandal, or who's going with who. In a hundred years, none of this will matter. Let's cut through the clutter, fly above today's clouds of gloom and find out what really is most important. The answer lies in the words of the Apostle Paul, words that will transform your life.

One day the race of life will end: no more laps around the track, we'll finally be at rest from all our labors. But believers know that they must run that race while they can, because their goal is to please Jesus, the Author and Finisher of their Faith. In pleasing Him, they honor the Father, who rules supreme over all.

Someone once said, "There is no substitute for victory." We all felt elation when Iraq's Saddam Hussein fell. But there are many battles to face in the race of life. One day they'll all be over, and, from heaven, we'll trace the hand of God in every conflict we had to endure. For more on our future perspective, stay with us.
