Suffering For Christ, Part 2 of 2 (The Leagacy Of A Converted Man)

November 29, 2019

Paul wrote to Philippian believers while he was in Roman chains. His counsel is blunt: “it is given to us to believe in Jesus and also to suffer for His sake.” Many Christians like the abundant life, but cringe when suffering comes. Yet this is our calling as believers.

When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. A blinding light surrounded an enemy of Jesus, and this enemy surrendered without a struggle. Saul became Paul after his miraculous conversion, but reputations die hard. It took some time before this new disciple would be trusted.

As believers in Christ, “We’re in the army now.” Civilian life is over, as we are under the Lord’s command. It’s time to assess our gifts, find our places in God’s mission, wear His spiritual armor, and proclaim His life-giving message. As we live for Christ, the clock is advancing, and as Paul says, “Our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.” As this age draws to a close, the clock is ticking ever louder. Let this be a wake-up call for each of us.

William Booth founded the Salvation Army. Nearing death, his last message to an annual conference came in a telegram with one word: “others.” What will be your final words? What is your legacy? What will your epitaph be?

Involvement in a local church might be the best medicine you could ever take. It provides help and support when you need it most, and you have the privilege of helping others too! But how exactly does the body of Christ provide healing for its members, even when the wounds run deep?

When believers display God’s character traits, the world will see them helping each other, not jostling for advantage. They’ll see true fellowship, where the needs of others take priority. The church is an example to a watching world of what the love of God looks like.

Some people want to live solely within the four walls of a church, fearing to go out. But God calls us to display the love of Jesus and proclaim the good news outside of the church. Are we interested in serving the world, that it may be convicted of sin and led to repentance? Do you sense this call?

The race of life is most productive when everyone fulfills his or her God-given role. Romans 12 lists the spiritual gifts God gives to make fulfilling that role a joy, not a burden. If you are a Christian, you have a gift, and it is designed to serve others.
