Your church needs you...it needs you out on life's racetrack, running alongside the other members to get the job done together. The challenge for the new year is "get involved." That is what Esther did at a crucial point in the history of the Jewish people. She got involved even at great personal risk, as must we to face the daunting challenges of 2008.

Most of our choices do not affect world history. But sometimes, God puts us in situations where they can, and do. To save her people from extinction, Esther faced the risk of execution to beg the king of Persia to rescind a royal edict. She did not try to "pass the buck." She knew that at that key moment, "the buck stopped here."

At year-end, we are all conscious of passing time. We wish we had more, but the sand keeps running through the hourglass. At crucial times, great leaders arise, often from common roots. They find themselves at the vortexes of history, and are called upon to make momentous choices. Today we learn about one such leader, a woman named Esther.

So some of those presents were not quite right? Hey, no problem! It is the day after Christmas, let us all head to the mall. If our broadcast finds you making plans to race back to the store, remember that the holiday has it roots in a far different culture at a different time and place. Listen today as Dr. Lutzer brings us down to earth with another view of Christmas.

For most kids, Christmas morning is paradise. Amid bright lights, they rip the wrappings off those priceless presents. Later, Mom and Dad pick up the mess as the kids run off with their new treasures. Christmas is certainly a shopkeeper's dream, but now, take a few minutes with Dr. Lutzer and consider Christmas from a place far, far away and a time long, long ago.

All the presents are wrapped...it is another Christmas. But our celebration is but a mere echo of a greater one long ago. Believers running life's race know that God sent His only Son to live among us on that pivotal day in Bethlehem...a day marked by a chorus of jubilant angels. Today: final thoughts on why those angels were rejoicing.

Christmas marks a singular event in human history...the day the Son of God was born. That day was announced by angels. Angels are God's messengers, and the account in the book of Luke tells us that angels were instrumental in making Christ's birth known over the skies of Bethlehem. Royalty was coming into the world, a King Who would live and die, and then rise again to return in glory.

Many families gather at Christmas to read the Nativity story from Luke chapter 2...a story marked by the supernatural work of angels. Angels had a joyous task 2,000 years ago...announcing the Good News of the Savior's birth. The skies over Bethlehem were ablaze with light, as poor shepherds cowered in fear. Today we will take a look at "What Angels Celebrate."

Modern thinking says angels are benevolent friends looking for ways to help us build our field of dreams. Real angels are far different. God's warriors do His bidding, protect His children, and fight demonic forces in unseen places. The angels always point us to God Himself. They know what we need to know: that God is high and lifted up, seated on the throne of His glory.
