Many people spend more time planning for a vacation than preparing for eternity. Perhaps it doesn't seem real that we will still exist—fully conscious and alive—beyond the grave. But it's true, and it calls for careful consideration. In this updated edition of One Minute After You Die, bestselling author Erwin Lutzer urges readers to study what the Bible says. Can near-death experiences teach us anything about life after death? How can we prepare for our own final moment? “Greater love hath no man, than a man lay down his life for his friends.” That’s what Jesus said, and that’s what He did. There is no greater love than the love of God through His Son, and that’s the greatest Christmas gift one could receive this year.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” The life He offers to those who believe is an eternal one. This Christmas let’s be thankful for the life our Savior promises, a life that transcends our temporary time in this world.

At Christmas, we would rather not think about the end of life. But the eternal life Jesus provided for those who believe means that death is not the end. In one sense, Jesus becomes the beginning of the real life we were meant to have.

With joyful carols filling the air, the Christmas season is upon us. Economy experts say the season is pivotal for retailers, and during this time of year many get caught up in the materialistic desires of our culture. It’s sad that so much darkness is around us, but that’s why we look to Jesus as our source of light.

Most people like the lights, the decorations and the gifts of Christmas. But why do believers celebrate Christmas? We may enjoy lights and gifts, but we celebrate because Jesus renounced the glories of heaven to fulfill the Father’s will. He became a man and died for a sinful human race.

At Christmas we celebrate much more than gifts and good cheer. Believers in Jesus know He came into a world of woe. Born in a humble stable, this baby grew up to be the Savior of the world.

Most of us are glad we don’t know the trials tomorrow will bring. But Mary knew that pain was in her future even before her son grew up. Jesus would divide people, and that division would run right through Mary’s soul.
December 18, 2020
When light comes, darkness scatters. The brightness of Jesus made clear the blackness of sin, and those who encountered Him either repented or rebelled. This was prophesied by an old man in the Temple at Jerusalem.
December 17, 2020
When you read the words of Jesus, you find some radical sayings that confounded the people of His day. His mother Mary had insight into the effect her son would have, and she spoke about this in her Magnificat.
