Jesus, On Trial For Us, Part 3 of 3 (For Us)

March 21, 2018

Courts may deliver the sentence, but justice is not always done. For Jesus, mock trials were held to give legitimacy to the killing of an innocent man. But He knew there was a higher court, where true justice would prevail. For this reason, we need not seek vengeance on earth.

When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. Before his crucifixion, Jesus endured mock trials to establish His supposed guilt. First, the Jewish leaders passed judgment. Then He was handed over to the Roman court system. The civil case against Jesus was another mockery of justice.

In a just world, the court system examines facts and determines guilt or innocence. But this is not a just world. After Jesus was arrested, He went before several so-called courts in rapid succession. He did it for one reason, that He might give His life for us.

The betrayal of Jesus is perhaps the greatest crime ever committed. Even the betrayer was filled with remorse for what he had done. In this message we look at the dark heart of Judas, a man who was close to Jesus, but so very far away.

The Jewish authorities plotted with their Roman overlords to have Jesus killed. All they needed was someone who could help them set the trap, and that someone was Judas.  He betrayed the Son of God into the hands of evil men.

When Judas gave Jesus that fateful kiss, he was helping those who wanted to kill the Son of God. The enemies of Christ unwittingly made our redemption possible. In this message, we’ll meet Judas, of whom it was said, “It would have been better for him if he had not been born.”

Some say God’s will for us is prosperity and happiness. For Jesus, God’s will meant unimaginable suffering, both in Gethsemane and on the cross of shame. In this message we learn why we must also do the will of God, no matter what.

The Garden of Gethsemane is very ancient. Even today you can see olive trees known to be over a thousand years old. In this garden, Jesus prepared to face His darkest hour. He prepared to give His life for us.

The Bible tells us to “remember the Lord’s death until He comes.” What Jesus did during those last fateful days was done for undeserving sinners.  In this message we remember the Garden of Gethsemane, and how far God went that we might be redeemed.

During their enslavement in Egypt, the people of Israel found themselves in some really tough spots. Only when the pressure really mounts do some of us finally cry to God for help. In this message we explore some of the reasons for Israel’s national trial, and the trials we also go through.

When life is a pressure cooker for years on end, it’s easy to believe that God simply does not care. But we must remind ourselves of the promise of God that He will never leave us nor forsake us. When we’re in a tight place, it’s the promises of God that can get us through the darkness.
