Jesus, Lord of Future Judgment, Part 4 of 4 (7 Convincing Miracles)

May 27, 2014

One thing we can learn from the healing of a man born blind is that God’s purpose is bigger than we can imagine. Through this miracle, Jesus brought spiritual sight to the spiritually blind, and blindness to those who thought they could see.

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Jesus healed a blind man’s eyes. His works of healing were complete. “Once I was blind, but now I can see.” Can the same be said for the miracles of televangelists?

People should have rejoiced – a man born blind received his sight. Yet this miracle caused more controversy than celebration. Human nature was on display, and a great miracle divided people into factions based on their preconceptions.

Do severe trials mean you are out of God’s will? Not always. Jesus sent the disciples onto a storm-tossed sea. God uses storms to mold our character, leading us into the tempest to teach what cannot be taught in comfort.

Sudden squalls often hit the Sea of Galilee. Life is like that. One day, all is well. Then, a terrible accident occurs. We can rest on the One who can either calm the storm or calm His fretful children.

Jesus overruled the laws of nature when walking on water and when commanding a storm to cease. If you had been in that boat, what would your reaction have been?

Jesus fed the 5,000 by the Sea of Galilee to underscore a desperate need: He is the eternal Bread that can feed their souls. We, too, need to seek Him, and not mere miracles. Our real hunger is to know God, and Jesus delights in meeting that need.

Food never tastes as good as it does when you are really hungry. When Jesus fed the 5,000, He referred to Himself as the Bread of Life, encouraging the spiritually hungry to believe in Him.

Many books have been written about the feeding of the 5,000 near the shore of the Sea of Galilee. This miracle should convince everyone that Jesus is Lord. Are you convinced?

In life there are typically “no free lunches.” However, this day was different, and the news of an incredible miracle spread like wildfire. This is the story of 5,000 people, multiplied loaves and fishes, and what it means to us.
