Israel, Clay in the Potter's Hand, Part 1 of 3 (The Church in Babylon)

January 16, 2015

Many people think they are masters of their own destiny. But God sees His people as clay on a potter’s wheel, and since He’s the potter, He controls their destiny. We need to see ourselves as vessels God can make and remake as He chooses.

We are living in a time when we desperately need to engage our culture with the only message that has any hope of transforming it. As Pastor Lutzer explores various approaches to the relationship between the state and the church, he reminds us that spiritual redemption, not political reformation, is at the heart of God’s agenda. Only the church, not a political party, can bear God’s message to a hurting world. Click below to receive this book for a gift of any amount or call Moody Church Media at 1.800.215.5001.

We hear the cries, “Our government is out of control.” “What was once wrong is now okay, and what was right is now wrong.” In order to reach this point, people have had to believe some awful lies. In this message we’ll look at four of these lies, and what believing them leads to.

God had Babylon take Israel captive after Israel deceived itself into idolatry. He will not tolerate endless disobedience from His people. He did not then, and He will not today. The story is in the early chapters of Jeremiah.

Jeremiah 2:13 says that Israel forsook God, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out broken cisterns for themselves which can hold no water. For this, God’s judgment fell. Have we in the modern church hewed out broken cisterns?

In the divided kingdom, Israel in the north had been carried into captivity by the Assyrians. In the south, the prophet Jeremiah told Judah of God’s coming judgment. Despite a clear warning, the people clung to their idols and did not repent. Does this sound familiar?
