God's Glory in Our Death, Part 1 of 3 (Nothing Else Matters)

September 16, 2014

Believers count on a life beyond this life. Meanwhile, we live to bring glory to God.  Whether our days are many or few, all of us will die. We want to live in such a way that, when life is over, God receives glory.

Have you ever tried to put a puzzle together without looking at the picture on the box? These messages will help you see the big picture of the puzzle we call the Bible, with the Bible's 66 books being the puzzle's pieces. As we survey key events throughout the Old and New Testaments, we'll better understand the story of redemption as revealed to us in the Scriptures. The series culminates in an overview of the vital but often misunderstood book of Revelation as we together look forward to Christ's return. Through the Holy Spirit, a believer embarks on a journey that ends in being like Christ:  transformed from the inside out by the glory of God. This is how beholding God leads to our becoming like God.

In the Old Testament, God’s glory was only seen by a few. Moses saw it, crying out to see more. But Paul wrote that “when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.” Now we can behold and be changed by the glory of God.

“And we with unveiled face beholding the glory of the Lord are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.” How that change occurs depends on believers renouncing sin in their lives.

The trials of Job would make many of us give up. Ten of his children were killed and his wife said “curse God and die.” But Job persisted until he could say to God, “I had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen you.”

Believers know that God has a purpose in their suffering, a purpose we cannot fathom while in the deep valley. We must realize that the ultimate good of God’s glory far outweighs the pain we encounter along the way.

Suffering teaches lessons that an easy life can never teach. Job’s terrible trials brought him face to face with God. Today we take a look at the life of the Apostle Paul, a man with a God-given thorn in the flesh.

Sooner or later, we all experience suffering. But believers have the promise that suffering for the sake of Jesus will be rewarded. Nothing else matters but the glory of God, especially when we are in pain.

Corinth was a moral cesspool, its pagan temple filled with prostitutes. The church there was plagued with sexual sins, including incest.  As a result, we have very clear teaching on how a Christian should live sexually so as to glorify God.

One way for believers to handle the temptation of sex outside of marriage is to realize that God sees all. God Himself is a witness to all that believers do since they are indwelt by the Holy Spirit.
September 3, 2014
Sex creates very deep bonds between people.  It joins them metaphysically, whether married or not. For believers, that joining affects their relationships with Christ.
