God, I've Lost Everything! #2 of 3

January 30, 2009
There are far worse things to lose than one's possessions. Even Job's great faith wilted when he lost his health. First you lose your savings, then your job, then your children. Finally, you learn you have terminal cancer. How would you handle the loss of everything? Would you curse God and die, as Job's wife urged? Stay tuned for answers to some really tough questions.

When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. A hurricane destroys a coastal town. Cancer strikes a promising athlete. Bad things happen to good people, and we ask "Why?" Life's race can take tragic turns. Your retirement savings are vaporized by corrupt bankers. Your stock holdings turn to dust. We can be detoured into great sorrow and disappointment. But we must learn, as Job did, that God is still there.

When all is going well, believers have little sense of their need for God. But when calamity strikes, they'll tell a different story. When the economy fractures and your job is lost, finding the reason can be hard if not impossible. When you lose your health, or your child, something inside screams out "Why?" But, as Job of old found out, there is a supreme purpose for suffering.

Your son's on his bike. A distracted driver slams on the brakes...but too late to prevent your son's death. You cry out "why?" Life's race can be hard when the "whys" have no answer. Years can pass, and we're no closer to an answer than when our tragedies took place. A man named Job experienced great suffering, and the book that bears his name can teach us how to suffer as well.

A gymnast trains for years, performing flawlessly in practice. But at the Olympics she falls from the balance beam, crying "Why?" "Why" is the word that haunts us when things go seemingly wrong. Millennia ago, a man named Job showed us how to ask why. We'll hear his story, meet his well-meaning friends, and encounter the God whose purposes we cannot fathom.

The Bible says that Satan can appear as an angel of light. Indeed, many follow demons when they think they're following God. History will climax in a great struggle of good and evil. The outcome is foreordained: Jesus will return and vanquish Satan, his demons, and all who followed them into believing what the Bible calls The Lie, a lie promoted by media luminaries such as Oprah Winfrey.

These days, people are very eager to believe in change. "Don't mind the details," they say, "just give me change." In the end times, change will come in the person the Bible calls the Antichrist, a leader of fearsome power who will embody the opposite of everything Jesus is. And the human race will, by and large, believe his lies, setting up the final war to end all wars.

The ultimate future for the believer is indeed glorious, but not before the darkest period in world history has taken place. The Bible says that in the latter times some will depart from the faith and adopt the doctrines of demons. Modern-day teachers masquerade as believers, teaching a perverted gospel that has its roots in the mind of Satan himself. As these days approach, what are we to do?

What does the future hold? Most prognosticators can't look very far into the unknown. At best, they can only guess. But the Bible gives some clues as to what will happen in what are called "the last days." We read of false Christs and false prophets who will lead many astray into believing what the Bible calls The Lie. What is this Lie?

With the willing help of the media in America, an unseen Pied Piper of Hamlin is leading millions into a false hope...a hope that they can fashion their own destinies, empower their own choices, and make their own dreams come true, because they are, in fact, their own gods. This is what the Bible calls The Lie. For the truth on this lie, stay with us.

When people are dazzled by miracles, they'll believe almost anything. Modern-day miracle workers take fast advantage of that. You can even buy a book called A Course in Miracles. And since only God can perform a miracle, the next leap of modern faith is to realize that we, ourselves, are gods. Satan's great end-time Lie is in full bloom, on radio, TV, and across the internet.
