Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Becoming an addict is a process as the tentacles of temptation take hold. Getting out of addiction is also a process—a process in which God shows His grace in leading us back to the right path.

Addicts are usually blind as to just how addicted they really are. And when it comes to spiritual blindness, Jesus had much to say to the religious leaders of His day—and to us.

The one thing an addict needs more than anything else is a way to break their addiction—to break free from their bondage to habits they can’t control, let alone stop. There is help. Jesus is the one who can set us free.

Compulsive behaviors eventually become addictions.  Whether to alcohol, drugs, gambling, or pornography, people can become trapped and unable to find a way out. But the grace of God provides an open door that all of us need.

When we make major mistakes in life, forgiveness is only part of the solution. The consequences of our actions will remain, but the grace of God can help us during times of deep depression.

Guilt and shame can drive people to kill themselves. Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare’s famousplay is a perfect example. However, there is a way back from the precipice, and it’s found in the Word of God.
