When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. The Apostle Peter says, “Christ suffered for us, leaving us an example that we should follow in His steps.” Following in those steps requires us to make fundamental changes in our priorities. Are we willing to reexamine our priorities in light of Jesus?

What if a believer really did what Jesus would do? That’s what Charles Sheldon asked when writing the classic novel “In His Steps.” The answers then were radical, but what about today? What would Jesus do? In this message we revisit that provocative question.

The parables of Jesus cut to the deepest level of human motivation. In the story of the rich fool, greed was one issue, but covetousness was another. None of us is free from the grip of wanting more. So how should we think about our possessions? And how should we think about eternity?

No earthly possessions will accompany us into the recreated world. You can’t take it with you. So why are our lives so consumed with possessions and wealth? Jesus told a story about a man who had great riches and wanted more. One night the man’s life was taken. His passion for wealth proved to be meaningless.

In a shaky market, people wonder where to invest their money. Jesus taught a lesson on ultimate investments. He counsels believers to invest in God’s kingdom, because only in eternity will the true interest rate be on display.

A wealthy man decided to fire a manager. So the manager cut some deals with the master’s debtors to curry favor, to have options once his job ended. Jesus made this story into a parable about investments. But why did Christ commend a man who acted improperly?

In Luke 14, Jesus told a story of a lavish banquet. The invited guests all had other things to do, so the man giving the banquet brought in the poor and the crippled—those who would never expect such a gift. This parable shows us how to approach people with the gift of the gospel.

Jesus told a parable about a man hosting a banquet. When the invited guests gave excuses and refused to attend, the host invited anyone he could find to sit at his table. God seeks the lost just like this man sought people to feed. We too should reach people who need the gospel.

A master gave three servants money to invest. Jesus said that two of them made substantial returns and were rewarded. The third hid his money in a piece of cloth and felt the wrath of his master. This parable compares money with the way we spread the gospel. Will we be faithful with the good news?

How we handle the small tasks of today is vitally important. It affects whether we’re given a larger task to perform—and enjoy the rewards that go with it. In Luke 19, Jesus taught about faithfulness and the perils of unfaithfulness.
