Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Believers arrive at life’s goal line by faithfully following Christ, who gave His life for others. Taking His gospel to needy people is our primary reason for running the race every day. Are you making an impact in your area of influence?

If you think trusting Christ means all your pathways will be strewn with roses, think again. Many of Christ’s pathways were pathways of suffering. If we’re serious about following Him, eventually we’ll leave the oasis and head into the wilderness.

Believers follow Jesus at His command. His road was never easy, and if we walk in His steps, some of those steps will be tough ones. In this message we’ll find out what it means to follow Christ into the desert.

The Apostle Peter says, “Christ suffered for us, leaving us an example that we should follow in His steps.” Following in those steps requires us to make fundamental changes in our priorities. Are we willing to reexamine our priorities in light of Jesus?

The parables of Jesus cut to the deepest level of human motivation. In the story of the rich fool, greed was one issue, but covetousness was another. None of us is free from the grip of wanting more. So how should we think about our possessions? And how should we think about eternity?

No earthly possessions will accompany us into the recreated world. You can’t take it with you. So why are our lives so consumed with possessions and wealth? Jesus told a story about a man who had great riches and wanted more. One night the man’s life was taken. His passion for wealth proved to be meaningless.

In a shaky market, people wonder where to invest their money. Jesus taught a lesson on ultimate investments. He counsels believers to invest in God’s kingdom, because only in eternity will the true interest rate be on display.

A wealthy man decided to fire a manager. So the manager cut some deals with the master’s debtors to curry favor, to have options once his job ended. Jesus made this story into a parable about investments. But why did Christ commend a man who acted improperly?

In Luke 14, Jesus told a story of a lavish banquet. The invited guests all had other things to do, so the man giving the banquet brought in the poor and the crippled—those who would never expect such a gift. This parable shows us how to approach people with the gift of the gospel.
