Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. The race of life is most productive when everyone fulfills his or her God-given role. Romans 12 lists the spiritual gifts God gives to make fulfilling that role a joy, not a burden. If you are a Christian, you have a gift, and it is designed to serve others.

Believers are told to wield the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. It’s not just a book. It has power, and it’s the means God uses to open closed hearts to the Gospel. Let’s take a final look at Ephesians 6 and observe the power of God’s Word as it puts the enemy to flight.

All who call on the name of Christ are in a lifelong battle. That’s why we have been given the armor of God: five pieces for self-defense, and one weapon for offense against Satan. That weapon is the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

It’s tough to grow in the Christian life without the assurance that you are a child of God. Some say salvation can be lost, regained, and then lost again. There’s no assurance there! Let’s address the crucial question of how to know we have eternal life.

Someone has said, “What you think, you are.” We must protect our minds from the devil’s attacks. And the helmet of salvation is what we need when doubts arise about our status as God’s children. Let’s consider how to use another piece of the armor of God.
