February 21, 2008

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Revelation chapter 20 paints a picture of a great crowd of those who are not redeemed, standing before a great white throne of judgment. And those before this throne all share a common destination: a lake of fire. Today: we will see what happens to unbelievers at the last judgment, and why you need to be certain of your salvation before it is too late.

The very word brings to mind hopelessness and torment. Hell: it is a place of judgment that few take seriously anymore. But that is a mistake. Hell is just as certain as heaven, and God makes it clear that He has made a way for you to escape the one and enjoy the other. Today: a stark picture of a terrible destiny...a destiny you need not face.

While heaven is a place of smiles, it is also a place of tears. There will be regrets to deal with, sorrows to work through. But as we understand His purposes more fully, God will wipe away those tears as we praise Him who does all things well. Today: some final thoughts about "Living in the New Jerusalem," the future home for believers who have walked the vale of tears we call earth.

Most of us get bored quite easily, and we might wonder how we could possibly fill a heavenly eternity with something to do. Not to fear, God has plenty for us to do. In fact, we will never be able to complete our eternal tasks. Today: more about "Living in the New Jerusalem," a place you will never want to leave.

Hollywood filmmakers help us imagine some pretty awesome places. But no video image could prepare you for the New Jerusalem. A 1,500-mile cube will house the redeemed for eternity, a place Jesus called "My Father's house." If you trust Christ, it can be your house, too. No mortgage payments...just a wondrous city with a dwelling crafted especially for you.
