The Gift of Fulfillment, Part 1 of 2 (When the Spirit Has His Way)

June 7, 2013

What water is to the body, the Holy Spirit is to our soul. Things of this world can’t fill the emptiness we feel. We are actually seeking something beyond this world. And Jesus said that if anyone is thirsty, they should come to Him.

When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. The Holy Spirit is not only with us, He is in us. When we sin, He is grieved.  When we think that no one cares, He comforts us. When we can’t pray because our circumstances are so dark, He prays on our behalf.

The Bible uses word-pictures to help us understand spiritual truth. This is especially true with regard to the Holy Spirit. We learn about the Holy Spirit by seeing His work in terms of things such as oil, water, and wind.  Each picture increases our understanding, and today, we’ll learn about another word-picture that speaks of the power and purity of the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is a person. He’s not an “influence.” He has all of the attributes of personality. He has intellect, emotions, and a will. He also has all of the attributes of deity. He is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent. And for those who have believed in Jesus Christ, He is in them and beside them as a helper, comforter and teacher. So if we let the Spirit have His way, He’ll consume everything in our lives that isn’t holy. He will purify us.

Being a winning athlete takes quite a physical toll on those who strive for victory. It can be just as demanding in your spiritual walk. It’s only through some hard knocks that we learn to help others face their tough times. Learning to endure hardness was advice Paul gave, advice you and I need to hear in this age of self-gratification.

Many American Christians want what everybody else wants: success and security. Few want to take a towel to wash someone’s feet. Being a servant goes against our grain. But, in God’s eyes, it’s the servants who win in the race of life.  Everybody likes servants—but no one wants to be a servant.

In America, sports and entertainment figures exemplify the accumulation of material wealth. But money can weigh us down in our spiritual lives. Even worse, it can turn our hearts away from God. In today’s message, God has some words to say to the rich.

You can tell where a Christian’s values lie by examining their giving. One hallmark of a true believer is generosity. It’s a touchy subject, but it’s another spiritual discipline that strengthens our walk with God.
